Sorry to hear about Larry; will be praying for a speedy recovery!
Does the hospital have a web-site to send E-cards?
I hope everyone is geared up to the max; them rocks don't give much...
Checked it out myself last year, several times

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride

I am another who could not make the trip, however, if anyone else can, lets try again. Still at least a month till the snow gets to be an issue. And then only at high elevations. DS, not a trail race ride. I suggest Salida since it is closer, plenty of trail variety and motel/camping accomodations. Very sorry to hear of Tourmeister's Dad. Prayers sent.

Depending on when Dad gets out of the hospital and how he is feeling, we may very well make A trip Aug 24/25th through Sept 1/2. I say A trip because we might still make Colorado, but we might also end up going to Cloudcroft, NM instead. It really depends on how my Dad is doing and the timing for him being able to go back to work.

We can't do the same week as you because Roger already has his vacation scheduled for this week and next. So we have to work with his time off.

Dang, I hate to hear that!! I hope the surgery goes well and there are no complications preventing a full recovery. Where did it happen?

Also sorry to hear of that elbow injury. Had a bad one in 07 and with tendon complications it took a year for recovery. I hate them but always wear heavy duty elbow guards in CO.

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride

Quick update on Bueligan (Larry)...Joe will be going up to Montrose today to help him get on a plane back to Texas. Sounds like he's doing pretty well as such things go. His friends have taken care of his bikes and other items as if they were their own. So, what good is TWT anyway...?

We had a long hard ride yesterday. The plan was for 15 riders to cross over Corkscrew pass, Animas Forks and over to Lost Creek trail. Some were to split off onto Pole Creek trail (single track) and the rest go on to Stoney Pass where we all meet up again. Sounds great eh?

Well...you know how plans go when machines get involved. We made it to the switchbacks going up Corkscrew when the first bike started wheezing for oxygen and turned back. Just past the summit another bike decided to quit running altogether. We spent a good hour rebuilding its carb on the trail. Next came a clutch malfunction. Those two turned back for Ouray. This country is rough on man and machine.

Our own Clutchless and her TW200 made a fine showing for a girl riding a very limited machine through some wickedly technical stuff. Some bikes hit the ground as the day went and some bruising took place but nothing that a couple of Advil couldn't cure.

Later in the day folks were out of water, snacks, gas and energy...and we were way out in the woods with some bikes struggling to make it home before dark. You know, great adventure sometimes only seems so great after the fact.

Well, we all lived to tell about it and gathered round the campfire last night to enjoy a bite or two of cobbler and some first rate good company.

Details and pix later...

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride

Glad to hear the elbow got fixed and he is being taken care of by everyone. Knowing the other riders are so willing to help each other certainly generates a peace of mind on trips like this.

Since Roger and I had to bail because of my Dad's unexpected vacation in the hospital...

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride

Operation "Get Bueligan back to Texas" was a success. Larry's back home, in good hands and doing fine.

We've been blessed with occasional light rain that's made the dust stay put nicely. A few of us rode a spirited pace down Black Bear to Telluride to get a bite at the Baked In Telluride deli. Good eats! After waiting for a shower to pass we then rode over Imogene pass back to Ouray. Great ride.

Another group went exploring on some national forest roads that lead to a 14K mountain and looked really good in the videos. Needless to say, there's a lot more to explore up here than we've had time to ride.

Joe came up with a video cable yesterday so trail cam movies were on the big screen last night. Our cobbler turned out OK and the entire group, plus some campground neighbors, gathered round the campfire and had a great time visiting, laughing at the videos and telling tall tales. Good times for sure.

Re: Fourth Annual Ouray CO. Dual Sport Ride

I left Ouray this morning and on my way back home. This was an absolutely outstanding event. For those of you who have not ridden this area, you should! This was my first time to offroad in SW Colorado and can honestly say it is by far the best terrain I have every ridden. Awesome vistas, elevation changes and varied terrain and also some really good weather. Thank to all my riding buddies (RG, Chad, Art, Ray, Scott and Stan). Can't wait till next year.
