DAL/FTW: Dallas Motorcycle Show, Sat/Sun Jan 23/24

Re: Dallas Motorcycle Show - You gotta go!

One reason.. the Africa Twin is there. Actually 2 of them. One Dual-Clutch auto and one standard clutch.

Cell phone pics... sorry.

Sadly the new KTM GT is not in attendance.

Don't come before 10 a.m. Unless you want to wait in the concourse area.

I think 10 is when they open, correct? I was planning on getting there around 10:15-10:30 so hopefully there isn't too big of a line to wade through.

Is there still free bike parking and coat check this year?

I heard there is free bike parking, but we drove the Tahoe and paid $15 for parking. Yes, they do have a gear check booth before you get in.

I was there last night. The show was ok, nothing special unless your shopping for a bike or want to visit a specific vendor.

I was surprised that there was NOBODY around the AT, I wasn't that impressed. MEH.

Parking was a ****. Show is pretty cool. Lots of bikes and goodies. All the big vendors are here.

Spent almost two hours looking at bikes, talking to vendors and spent $5 for a raffle at the NorTex Norton OA. Pretty cool show, nice people, and sat on quite a few bikes. Tested the Honda NC700X and new HD 750 they had set up on the rack. I liked the AT and even talked to one of the Twisted Throttle reps who had gotten a chance to test ride it a fees months ago. Said it is the new ADV bar. Light, nimble, fast, and runs great on the highway. He also said Honda has kept a tight grip on it. Glad I was able to check it out [emoji4]

For the last couple of years we've taken the train down, and had to walk a good distance to get in. So I drove this year. Sigh...I can't win.

Show was ok. Didn't appreciate Indian firing up and revving to the moon right next to us. Too many pushy people trying to get you to sign up or buy crap you don't need. Seemed pushier than in previous years. Missed one exhibitor I wanted to see because I had to escape that area.

Somehow I missed the Triumph booth.

Made the mistake of sitting on the Multistrada. My son asked if I liked it to which I responded "Yea, I like it too much."

Blue FJR is beautiful, almost as nice as the 2005, but my current one still has too much life left in it.

Kid sat on some bikes, I have a good idea of what to get him for his birthday now. Mission accomplished.

Took the family this morning. Sat a few bikes, watched the stunt show. Snagged a photo with Britton and the crew! I've been watching him on TV for over ten years, so that was pretty cool.

Also checked out the Yamaha SR400. Big enough for the family!

not a bad show, I picked up a pair of custom fit earphones/ plugs.

KTM folks checking out something better than kool aid! (pilsner!)\

I probably walked right past you and the kiddo, yea parking was a mess and the floor was crowded at 10;30, the Harley and Indian displays were loud and obnoxious and the followers were drinking already....really ?

Saw some good stuff, researched my BMW obsession and decided the SDR is too small. Yamaha had the XS900 on display and zero knowledge that the MT-10/ FZ-10 even existed. The FJR was beautiful.

The young ones on the School of Rock stage were tearin' it up !

It lives, any thoughts from sitting , looking at it?

It feels smaller than it looked from the press photos. Looks more the size of a BMW 800GS rather than the full sized 1200.

Overheard many observers saying it needed another inch or two to fit them.

I'm 6'2'' and my legs were a little bent with flat feet. My friend is 6'4" and said it's way too short for him. (he rides a KTM Super ADV)

That said, there was a lot of travel in the rear that may be taken up with some added preload. otherwise you're gonna need a shock change.

It's got tube-type rims. I surely wish everyone would go to the tubeless wheels. I'm way past changing tube flats on the side of the road. Yuk.

The overall pkg is really nice though. That bike is gonna sell very well. You'll end up seeing a lot of them out and about.

Oddly they had the VFR X sitting right next to the Africa. Nice bike if you like ADV styled road-only bikes. looks like it will go after the Multistrada and the BMW 1000 XR.

The VFR X looked HUGE. I don't get the ADV look on bigger touring bikes...do people really want all that suspension travel ? I can do gravel fire roads on the FJR with full bags and hate the way the FJ09 handles on technical fast curvy stuff. I would rip the oil pan off of the FJ09 on a Walmart speed bump if not careful.
The look is obviously the trend, only the GS and KTM are really prepared for serious adventure touring. The African Twin seemed small framed to my 6 foot self too.

Yes. I like the taller view of the road, upright seating position and seat to peg length offered by adventure bikes.

I just got home from work and plan on making it today, but that's still up in the air depending on if I wake up rested enough or not - what all faces from TWT should I expect to see if I do manage to drag myself out of bed and go?

Ah man! Thats what happens when you lay too low. I missed that. Will have to see if the Bear wants to check it out today.

Interesting, I assumed since they show up here...

http://www.motorcycleshows.com/brands

that they would be at the show.

I didn't see that. Triumph has been absent for a few years now. One year they brought the demo truck to Eurosport on the same weekend as the big show in Dallas. Ha!

The Eurosport events are really fun... all of them. More intimate that the huge Dallas shows but still loads of fun.

Everyone should check out Eurosports "Rode Iron" event. It's a ride-in bike show akin to a large Bike Night. Some time in March - though I haven't seen the date yet. :rider:
