Post your Day Rides Here!

I was given a day to ride today. We are camped about 8 miles west of Poncha Springs CO so I started by heading west to Old Monarch Pass. I got there in time to get in front of the conga line of about 25 Jeeps. 55' and clouds left over from last night rain.

I really had no idea where to go next but as I neared the end of Old Monarch Pass Rd I noticed some tracks had appeared on the Zumo. Then I remembered that I had installed the TAT tracks from GPS Kevin. So I followed that track over to Tomichi Creek past Waunita Hot Springs and back to US 50. East to Sargeants then I picked up Marshall Pass Rd. It was wetter than Monarch but there was always some dry next to the mud holes so no problem. I made the summit just after noon.

Down the east side of Marshall into Salida for fuel, I had started with a half tank.

Plenty of time left so I decided to follow the TAT north then east and finally south till I got to US 50 at Cotapaxi.

Back to Salida and done. 170 miles over
hours. This is what the Tenere was designed for. And she handled it well. Probably the last day ride from our summer trip. We head home Monday.

Beartooth is one of the great rides.

I would say BTP is just behind Highway 191 in Arizona in terms of the number of twisty turns. Bear Tooth Pass is about 70 miles of sheer delight and 191 is about 100 miles in duration.

...passing through Yellowstone and they found a hiker mauled by a Grizzly...speaking of bears, I saw a huge one followed by two cubs yesterday on the road. I stopped and gave them ample room to maneuver.

For some reason, I have come up on quite a few Harley crashes on my trip. I think in each case they were not wearing helmets. I guess they are headed to/from Sturgis.

From today....the fire shown is the new one that started ostensibly by lightning. The picture I took of the distant mountain seems hazy and that is due to residual smoke from the previous fire. I rode about 15 miles through a portion of the heavy smoke. It was nasty.

A female bear with a cub just walked by as I emerged swimming from the nearby ice cold lake during a rest stop. They eventually passed. I was without my bear spray.

I'm not certain these technically count as 'Day Rides' - but I love seeing your route and photos!

Hi Jeff,

I know, but I am only taking a few pictures. I hope to have something more definite later. The 50 pounds of extra luggage does not impact the Fazer very much in terms of handling.

Cheers,

RB

They have their priorities right in Montana - NO ETHANOL!

Crossing into Canada. The border crossing was non-eventful, a few basic questions and I am on my way.

That's enough for now. I will post further images in a separate thread this autumn.

I met several riding friends for a little Hill Country goodness @ Bandera. We met for a few meals and had a great time. Yep, that is LDDave on the left who dropped in for breakfast on Saturday morning at the OST Cafe. This is the first time I have seen the new location for Stonehenge II including a replica from Easter Island.

Raskie enjoyed a lunch ride yesterday to the Country Skillet near Logansport, LA - my new-to-me CRF250L can be seen peeking around the sign:

So no one showed up for my ride no big deal haha was a last minute deal and it's nice to get out and about on your own sometimes.

Going up Veijas Grade

AFter taking the detour though pine valley due to construction stopped at the little one lane bridge. I was going to go up and over to the Sunrise Hwy but the Forest Service gates were closed. I rode around on the sunrise highway and they were closed on that side as well.

Shot over to Pine Valley OHV area and had a little bike nap just before the Helipad. Skidplate bottomed out going down hill (I picked a bad line for the strom) and it pitched me over to the left since the ground that the skidplate landed on was unlevel. Power lifted it out of the small wash out spot and then got it on a semi level piece of ground but couldn't use the kickstand so I just leaned it over on the hill.

Ate my lunch of Beefaroni on the Helipad. When I rolled up another group from SDAR was there gearing up to leave out. We said our hellos and goodbyes and they went on their way. I finished up my lunch and decided instead of going all the way back out to the PIne Valley Cul De Sac I'd go down to Buckman SPrings road and boogie on back to the house to see the wife and kiddo before I have to go to work this week.

If you weren't 1700+ miles west of me, I would have rode that area with ya ! ! ! Your a long distance Two Wheeled "Texans" guy ! ! !

Will do. Not sure when that will be. I'm thinking probably late next year, really depends on if I get promoted or not.

Riding in the snow is fun, just don't grab your front brakes.

HAHA makes for an interesting time for sure. I rode to Mount Etna in the snow in siciliy. Lucky for us it was only snowy at the top haha.

I doubt we'll see anything snowy or icey for at least another month or towards the end of February but you know as soon as we get there it's usually been preceeded by a couple of days of freezing rain. Once it gets there I just sit home and drink hot chocolate and watch cartoons, lol.

Took a short trip from Lindale, TX to Jefferson, TX. My son bought his used 990 Adventure 3 weeks ago while he was home on leave and I got my explorer 2 weeks ago. Put 170 miles on it to help break it in, I can hit 8,000 rpm now but I don't even need 7,000 on that thing.

Father & Son riding time is always a good thing!

Decided to stretch the legs on the KTM this morning. It started when JMZ as me if I had ever ridden Friar road. I had not so I thought I should go check it out.

It was foggy and I could not keep water from collecting on the inside of my shield, so I just rode with it open. The damp air stung, but it was a nice day. I made my way to Yoakum and decided to keep heading north. I went almost to Shiner and began heading west to Gonzales to check on JMZ.
