Who all has the new 1090R? What do you think of it so far and what have you done to it?

I sold my 07 950SE because it was a carb bike and only held 3.8 gallons of fuel. Sold it for enough to add a little more money and picked up a 2017 1090R. So far I've put Black Dog Cycle Works low foot pegs, Rox bar risers and a Wings slip on muffler on mine. I plan on adding a BDCW skid plate, KTM Aluminum hand guards and having Konflict redo my suspension for my weight. Been looking at the Slavens High Fender Kit to do away with the stock front fender. The more I ride the 1090R the better I like it. I was only getting around 35 mpg with the 950SE and so far, I've been averaging over 45 mpg with the 1090R.

Subscribed - very interested in opinions here.

Folks complain about rear cylinder heat on these and the other big KTM's. Any impression of that, now that it's baking hot out there?

Dude, you need to go back and edit that first post with some fresh bike porn. Seriously, you can't kick start this thread without pics of that beast.

The 1090R does not have near the heating issues as my 2015 1290SA-T has. There are subtle changes under the seat and radiator ducting that help move the heat away from the rider much better.

I will after I get another photo sight. I refused to pay for the use of my own pictures with Photobucket ! ! !

I'll assume you mean it does NOT have the heating issue...

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the 1090R versus 1290 Super Adv. Yes, I know they are quite different - that doesn't stop be from being curious :)

Photos - I just use Google Photos for this stuff. Totally free storage (if you are OK with them down-sizing the images to 'High Quality' - which is actually handy for forum posing...)

FIXED ! ! !

Here ya go Jeff S

I have had issues with the 1290 SA-T's Semi-Active suspension. I'm 352lbs and I have had the suspension settings tweeked as much as the electronics will allow and still have rear bounce. The forks seem to be doing just fine but the rear doesn't have enough dampening to handle my weight plus luggage. I plan on sending my rear shock to 1000 Oaks KTM to their tech who has told me he can put in a heavier spring, install a nitrogen fill valve and heavier oil to help with that problem. There are no upgrades for valving the Semi-Active suspension. I am going to have Konfict Motorsports set the 1090R suspension up for my weight and riding style. I do wish that KTM offered a cruise control option for the 1090R in their Power Parts. I would buy it in a heart beat. The 1090R's engine is smoother running than the 1290's. I guess that is because of the shorter stroke. While the 1090R pulles ok, it doesn't have the awesome low end torque of the 1290 so it requires a little more focus on the clutch while off road. I've been thinking about installing a Rekluse Clutch in the 1090R, that way I could focus more on my lines than worrying about clutch control and RPM's. There is substantially less felt weight with the 1090R while off roading, which build confidence quickly.

Ok, how do you share a photo in Google Photo's?:angryfire
I just tried and it won't show the picture ! ! !

Well, that's what free gets ya these days :)

After a time or two, I can do all that now in about 30 seconds...

How about a KTM 950+ Thread? After trying to keep up with the "big bikes" on my 650 during our Fort Ride I've made up my mind to upgrade to a 950 or 990. :rider:

I would go Fuel Injection before I went back to a carb bike. With a throttle tamer, the 990R is not a bad machine.

I do plan on putting a 45 or 48 tooth rear sprocket on my 1090R. It's a little fast in first for technical off road work !

Totally agree...

Just swapped out the CS sprocket on my 1190. It's a couple steps more than say on a 300 but honestly no big deal. Loosen rear wheel. Pull plastic cover from cs. Remove two screws from clutch slave. Remove two screws holding metal ring around CS. Pull off 17 tooth stock and replace with 16. Sounds way harder than it actually is. Hardest part was putting it up on the center stand. :)

No Sir. I torture myself looking on ADV everyday for something that will be in my price range but the stars are just not aligning for me right now. I must be a patient WeedHoppa for now...:zen:

LOL something will come along for you, patients young Padawan ! ! !

Here’s mine ready for the CDR my dad and I did this summer. The bike was perfect as was the ride itself. It really just feels like a big dirt bike when it needs to. I also did 887 miles across Texas in July in one day so it’s quite the cruiser as well.

As far as mods, it’s a big list. Altrider skid plate and rear rack, Rottweiler intake and emissions delete, Powercell cruise control, Clearwater Erica lights, IMS ADV II pegs, Arrow mirrors, Guglatech 3 stage fuel filter system, high fender and then a bunch of little stuff. Such an amazing bike.

What rear sprocket did you decide on? Impressions?

What's going on with the windscreen? Did you remove the stock one? Are you replacing with aftermarket? Or, is that the stock screen in a different position?

It is the stocker with one of this laminar lips on it. My only complaint with the bike is the unbelievable buffeting and wind noise I experience, to the point where my already bad hearing has gotten significantly worse even though I religiously wear ear plugs. It may have helped a bit but I’m still searching for a remedy. May just take the whole thing off and go naked. More wind pressure but at least it’s clean and quiet.
