Robin and I made the ride down to Nacogdoches for the pie run to Clear Springs Cafe. The ride down was just a straight 145 mile run on major highways so not all that interesting but pleasant anyway. We were the first to arrive and our Burgman's looked a little lonely siting in the empty parking lot. But before long others started arriving and it looked like maybe 25 or 30 bikes in total.

Food was good. I started out with a cup of their jalapeno crawfish chowder which was very good. Forgot to take a picture of it but did get a picture of the main course of fish tacos. seasoned rice and beans. Also very good. And of course I got a picture of the key lime pie I finished it off with.

Ride home was more fun as we took a bunch of twisty FM roads. Also much longer as it was 204 miles to Forney where we split up to head back to out houses. Most enjoyable if a little warm afternoon.

Gorgeous albeit hot-ish day. Good people. Good food. Good times. Clear Springs is awesome and downtown Nacogdoches beautiful.

Thanks to jeff, tony, deb, Tim, G and G wife for helping me with the broken Bueller. Busted intake throttle and still running hot.

Dang Robin, your pic of that station looks a LOT better than mine :thumb:

We had a great ride there and back. It was definitely warm, but as long as we were moving I was quite comfy. It was the stopping that was brutal! I've got some pics, but it is late and I am heading to bed. I'll try to get the posted up tomorrow.

I sure had fun riding with a great group of guys! :rider:

We made the trip over with Tourmeister, lots of dirt roads, neat old bridge and one deadend, was worse than photo shows! Thanks for leading us!

Great time. Good food, good roads, great friends.

Well I made the pie run. After my get off in May I wasn't quite sure when I'd get to one?. The bike got back to me the Tuesday before so that part of the plan came together. Road up with Tim, Tony, and Debbie. I got to lead so everyone's gas mileage was better than normal. I'm slow and old. Not to mention out of riding shape.
Nice place to eat. Gonna have to go there again and try the chicken fried ribeye steak.
The way home was eventful as Euromedics Buell decided it was done in Groveton. Always good to be in a group when that happens. Mine started surging and acting like I was losing a cylinder between Groveton and Trinity. Then the handlebars got loose. Always exciting when the grips move six inches down after hitting a bump. [emoji15]. Stopped in Huntsville thinking it was bad gas from the Chevron in Nac but Tims Ultra wasn't acting up so I limped it south and took it back into Woodlands HD. They pulled the codes as I had a check engine light. Rear injector had failed. Oh well, back in the shop. Thanks Tim for following in the Woodlands.
Always good to see everyone. No pictures from me this time. But Buff had the key lime pie that I did, Robin got my front fender and jacket, and I'm at the end of BobWs video. Thanks again guys.

Well I made the pie run.

It was delightful to see you and hear your stories. One thing about hard times, it gives you stories. One day I'll tell you about Park Lane - not a motorcycling story but funny as the dickens. And, I owe you a funny story.

:tab We had size riders in our group. I led and it was mostly a dirt ride up through the Davy Crockett NF. The recent rains made the sand almost perfect. There was almost no mud at all. We had a great time!

Old rickety bridge over the Neches River in the NF.

I think these load limits are a bit optimistic given the current condition of the bridge :cool2:

Typical of many of the roads

At the kink, the metal is literally torn through completely at the bolt holes

The water really is that brackish orange and quite stagnant

Apparently, someone is still maintaining this bridge :lol2:

:tab We didn't get many pics on the way to lunch because I was trying to get us there by 11:00am. Our pre lunch route was just over 100 miles of mostly dirt and we didn't get away until almost 8:45am. I think we rolled into the parking just a few minutes after 11:00am. This place has the BEST onion rings I've ever had anywhere. Be warned, a single order is HUGE!!!

Not as nice a shot as Robin's, but it was done with a 10 year old point and shoot ;-)

:tab So most of the route went as planned. We did have a few closed roads...

I couldn't convince anyone to roll the bikes over the board
IMG_0088.jpg

It's hard to tell, but it is a long way down if you fall...

:tab We BRIEFLY pondered riding down through the creek and out the other side... until a few of us walked it and realized how much sweating would be involved. It was quickly decided to head down the highway to see if we could find another road connecting to the route. We couldn't. So I just lopped off a short little section of the route and we continued on our way.

:tab It did not take long to find another closed road. There was no gate and the road wasn't actually blocked, so we decided to attempt it, figuring we could probably get around whatever we encountered unless it was something major like that last one...

:tab The road started out fine. Then there were some signs of pretty serious erosion where big chunks of the road bed had washed away on one side or the other. I was keeping the pace pretty relaxed to give me time to react to any surprises. Then up ahead I spotted something odd in the road...

Don't want to hit this unexpectedly...

Not hard to get around on a bike, impassable in a cage.

:tab That was the last of the obstacles. We were soon back in Lovelady where we stopped for a break. Then we ran Trinlady road, a wonderfully fun sandy road that runs down the East side of Hwy 19 between Lovelady and Trinity. We parted ways in Riverside. I had 248 miles showing on the GPS when I got home.

:tab It was warm, but it was still a great day of riding!

Great write ups and pictures all.
Thanks for having this event & great opportunity to get out and meet some great folks. Awesome group !
