A little over 1000 miles and took 2.5 days to do it instead of my usual 24 hours. This trip was to gather 5 remaining Tour Of Honor Arizona sites, and to do some site scouting for next year's Kactus Kilo Rally ( link to this year's rally )
The route.
The first site in Quartzsite. The photobomb was a woman doing yoga who walked into the park while I was getting ready to take the photo.
While in Quartzsite I took a couple more shots of possible Rally locations.
The Hi Jolly Tomb https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hi_Jolly
The Tyson's Well Stage Station
Northeast to the little town of Bouse.
Northwest to the Colorado River and Lake Havasu City.
North to the heat of Bullhead City, and still at the river.
Time to get out of the heat, so east on I-40 to Williams, gateway to the Grand Canyon. A comfortable bed, and then breakfast the next morning at the Grand Canyon Cafe - a small place but very good food.
A quick stop at "the Corner" to see the new statue (blocked by the woman behind Brenda).
One of the locomotives used by the Grand Canyon Railroad.
Then east on I-40 to Hwy 12 north. This is the view looking north. For those of you who think that Indian Country is all scrub and sand, this is just showing how beautiful it can be. This is on the Navajo Nation.
The Nation was hosting at event at the Window Rock memorial so I couldn't get the bike into the shot, but this is the new (still under construction) KIA memorial for the members of the Nation that gave their lives on behalf of the United States.
As part of the scouting team for the Kactus Kilo I look for unique out of the way locations. This is a power plant in St Johns AZ. It's in the middle of nowhere, and as you can see they don't want you approaching the plant so I took these photos at one of the entrances.
From there it was on to Show Low to spend the night at my mom's place, then breakfast in the morning and back onto the road to get home before it got too hot. It was a little over 100 when we arrived home. Unpacked. Showered. Nap. And then out to dinner for some "light" fare.
I've got some time off around the 4th of July so before I go to the mountains I hope to hit some of the Tour Of Honor sites in New Mexico.
