Re: Around the Bend 2011 - Feb 24-27, Terlingua

I'm planning on making this trip as well. I had a great time in "Epic" Arkansas and while I've been to Big Bend National Park several times, never on two wheels so it should be an awesome trip. The KLR will be ready!

Hi, CDC.

No, I don't have a group rate or a block of reserved rooms at the High Sierra. Sorry.

Richard. Is the High Sierra or the El Dorado the recommended hotel?

Re: Around the Bend 2011 - Feb 24-27, Terlingua

Dwayne,

The El Dorado and the High Sierra are the same property. The name of the motel is the El Dorado and their bar/restaurant is the High Sierra. The El Dorado is the suggested motel simply because of its central location. There are a number of other properties in the area that are both good and popular with riders. The ride guide has a list of all the hotels, motels, cabins, RVs, and camping businesses in the area.

Robert,

Thank you for bringing this up. Yes, Kathy always needs firewood. So, to everyone trailering out there please throw some firewood in your truck or trailer and drop it off at Kathy's Kosmic Kowgirl Kafe.

I updated the orginial post to add this piece. Thanks again for the reminder.

Tom, aren't you the same guy who rode from OK last year to ride and camp with our group in BBNP about this time? You had a ruggedly cold ride to and from, and that wasn't even winter then.

Well, you're a tougher guy than me...my hat's off to ya. Stay warm and have fun at the Bend ride. And BTW...I think you could've made that Black Gap stepup on your BMW with no problem.

Re: Around the Bend 2011 - Feb 24-27, Terlingua

I have been waiting since my own busted BB trip last May for an event in BBNP to get a do over. Only problem is that I would work until 4-ish the 24th. Would it be worth the ride to not be able to leave until Friday morning? Maybe leave thursday PM and see how far I can get before stopping? Any advice?

Take Monday off if that's a possibility and stay an extra day. Let others know you are staying an extra day and surely another rider will be around to ride with you. This way you will get in at least 2.5 days of riding.
