Yep, Its a thumper, basically shares the same motor as the XT and TT 500s but with electronic ignition instead of points, a larger finned head with a larger intake valve and a different carb all in a slightly hevier street bike frame. The 81 I have is my first street bike ever and being a dirt rider first and foremost it just made sense to get a dirtbike based street bike as my first.

If RG says it, it's gotta be true! He's without a doubt one of the good guys!

I still have an open spot in the pickup for the ride down and back and still need a bunkmate. See post #37 on page 2 for details.

Was chatting with a fellow twtexan about the rates at Lajitas resort and spa. My memories a little fuzzy on this but I was thinking someone knew someone that worked at the hotel and maybe got us a discounted rate if we were with Richard's group. Anybody remember any details on this? We could probably give the some really good business if the price were right.

I had one in ~78, at the time the XT were popular in Colombia and they brought a few SRs, had it a couple of years and sold it when I got married and came to the States...

About the $85 registration fee

Some of you may have noted that the cost of registration is quite a bit higher than in past years ($85 this year vs. $45 in year's past). I realize that is a pretty big increase so I would like to explain. In past year's your registration fee has covered the commemorative item (t-shirt or mug), banquet meal costs, banquet hall rental costs, and some money to pay those working at the rally. Well, this year we have added 3 additional meals (Thursday night dinner and 2 breakfast meals) plus we are having paid entertainment at Saturday night's banquet. To pay for the additional meals and the show on Saturday night required an increase in the cost of registration. My past rallies have shown that most riders do indeed eat breakfast and supper, so I thought it was reasonable to add the additional meals as part of registration (each meal costs about what you would pay if you ate them at one of the local restaurants).

With the closing of Kathy's cafe, we had to find a new spot for our morning coffee drinking, breakfast, and rider's meeting. The parking lot of the Starlight is ideal for a rider's meeting, but the Starlight is closed in the morning, so no coffee or breakfast. I thought it made sense to have coffee and breakfast available at our rider's meeting location and asked if they would open for us. They agreed but decided a buffet made more sense than trying to have full menu service.

Hopefully this all makes sense and won't discourage attendance. Hope to see you in Terlingua.

Scooter Patrol

I've seen a couple of threads with folks asking, and some taking, smaller cc bikes to Big Bend...KLX250, XT225, TTR 225, XR200, TW200, SP125, NX125, Super Sherpas, DR250, DR125, etc. If anyone is on the fence...get off it and come have a blast! Mini thumpers, unite!

I rode a good portion of BBRSP on my "backup bike", a playbike CRF150F last fall (after my WR250 tossed it's exhaust at the Devil's Staircase) and had an absolute blast. With 12hp, and a top speed in the 50's, the scenery blurred less and I saw more than I would on a big bike. And despite the small size, I had no problem riding a good pace, especially when the going got hard. My 450 riding partner for the week took a spin on the 150 and was (kinda, reservedly) impressed with how easy it was to make time on it. 80+ MPG is nice too.

We'll try to hit up Black Gap, River Road, Ernst Tinaja, and the Hot Springs one day (trailer to RGV). Then BBRSP and HWY 170 another day. And likely some other ridiculous, scoffed at, cobbled together, safety 3rd plan another day.

These are the little bikes we are riding...we call them the "biggest minibikes", LOL.

Any other micro-thumpers interested in tagging along in our scooter patrol?

I want to attend this event. But would like to link up with someone who has trailer space. I am in Houston. Would ride a WR250R. I should be able to take vacation that whole week if need be. So can be flexible on departure and return dates. But would love to ride extra days. I certainly can help pay gas.

If you have trailer space give me a shout.

I will taking an enclosed trailer and will probably be carrying the Husaberg and the KTM but will easily have enough room for your WR. I was planning on leaving Wednesday morning and coming back on Sunday but not sure what time. I too am pretty flexible in regards to time.

Spoke w/ a fellow in marketing at the Lajitas Resort and Spa to see what type of deal we may be able to get on rooms this year. He acted like we couldn't touch last year's rates but said he check into and get back with me. I'll post up as soon as I hear from him. It's a great central location to the two parks if the price is right.
