Does this require a plated motocycle? I have a crf250x. can I trailer it into BB and ride some of the trails?

hawkman,

Yes, a plated motorcycle is required. Unfortunately, there is no public off-road riding anywhere in the Big Bend area. All of the riding out there is on public roads (4 wheel drive roads but still technically public roads).

Not sure how strict Texas law is about getting a motorcycle plated but you should check out the Tusk Dual Sport Kit. It's only around $160 bucks and gets great reviews. Rocky Mountain ATV always ships quick so you could prob have it in a few days which would leave you plenty of time to get things sorted out and get a plate before the Big Bend ride. That 250 of yours would be absolutely perfect for the riding in Big Bend Ranch State Park.

Should mention the DOT tires and your exhaust may be an issue. In OK they don't even look at the bike. They just want to see a receipt that shows you bought a DS kit. I wouldn't change tires unless I had to for an inspection.

Hey Richard, I received the Big Bend Guide in the mail. Excellent as usual. In your tips section, I didn't find the paragraph about how to enjoy all the roads in the allotted time. Too much fun, too little time! I guess this will be the first of many motorcycling trips to the Bend. Thank You again for all you do. Sam

A few years ago maybe like 8 years or 10.
On one of the big Motorcycle rides in the Big Bend area, The DPS set up a sting to trap and ticket all the DIRT bikes,,, Well in the road block they got a lot of the locals for no tags inspection stickers , and all kinds of little infractions on the locals, The locals complained big time and no other traps were set up that I ever heard of........ Back fire

Well that' no good. I was looking into making this trip and bringing the gf to ride my CRF150, but it's dirt only. Shadman said he rode his 150 out there but sounds like it must be plated.

Lajitas resort and spa is supposed to be getting back with me in a day or two about a discount rate for riders participating in the around the bend ride. He said it prob won't be as good as last year but that we'd like it.

So don't book just yet if you're thinking about staying at lajitas. We should get a better rate. I'll post up as soon as I hear something.

Any dual sporters planning to arrive early for this? Reason being I'm camping and riding there Feb. 26-28th with a MTF group. Wouldn't take much persuading for me to stay over and ride a couple more days.

I will be leaving for big bend on the 28th and riding all day the 29th, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd. I know of 4 other guys doing this as well. Probably more that I don't know about. You may as well stay. It's a great group of guys.

Good, I will try and clear my schedule to stay longer. At least for the 29th but maybe more and stay for entire rally if I can. I'm camping at Big Bend Resort & Adventures which looks like only about 4 miles from the El Dorado Hotel central.

Once I lock in the extra days I will PM back for contact info.
