Re: Rich Mountain Rendezvous 2018 - Sept. 13-16 - IT'S TIME!!! w00t!
I had a great time. The weather was the best yet. My thanks go to the man with the Cushman who rode up and down the park road going thump...thump...thump. What a trip into my deep past before Hondas were imported and a one speed, automatic clutch was current tech. The ring-a-ding of 50cc two strokes tiddlers brought back many memories too. Cynthia, Kat, and so many others work incredibly hard getting this rally together. Ron, for probably the thirteenth year, was one of the regular breakfast cooks, Thomas fried about six dozen pieces of bacon, someone made a great pot of beans, and I think Donny made the great queso. The band was hilarious during the auction. Hint: don't ever raise your hand when the auctioneer asks if anyone is from Louisiana.
To really do this rally right, arrive Thursday by midday. I didn't and I lost out on several great rides. It's an incredible site for the dispersed tent camping. No mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers and great viewing of the sunrise, sunset, night stars, and the Harley groups rumbling by on the scenic loop. Just be sure and bring steel spike tent stakes. Aluminum bends easily. If your not well versed in the twisties, don't over cook a corner. Keep a good margin of safety. I survived with a panicked HARD pull on the Brembos. Fortunately, no one was in the opposite lane. Also, don't ride with a squared off front tire. It makes handling a bit weird. I think that's why my RT took another nap in Mena. Couldn't be that I'm such a poor rider that I can't keep it upright at low speed sharp turns. I may look into rib protection. The outstanding tiddler run organizer wears it for a good reason.
Already looking forward to next year.
