I drove up to Lake Isabella yesterday. Hwy 178 is a nice drive with lots of curves. Saw lots of adv, sport and harley riders out. This would be a bike riding mecca.
From Isabella go north through Kernville; Kern River, Sequoia, King's Canyon, Yosemite...motorcyclist's nirvana out in God's country. Be careful of snow and ice on the high passes this time of year though.
It was my backyard at one point. CHP heavy so don't go too crazy. Its called the Kern River canyon between Isabella and Bakersfield. It's the lowest sierra pass as you head further on 178 out to 395, and then heading north to Olancha, you can turn right towards Death Valley and ride the wide open straightaways. We used to run my Blackbird and buddies Hayabusas out there to top em out One of my favorite all time sierra passes is out there about 40 miles from Isabella or less, going North through Kernville and continuing about 20 miles before turning right. It crosses over on an almost single lane road for many miles at around 8500 feet at the top if not mistaken. worth the ride if you have time and its still open.
