Re: Big Texas Toy Run Viewing - DFW end

Watched the event in Grapevine. Very cool. Starter said they had 1200 bikes that had checked in, plus lots more that were behind the fence. Bikes were lined up 6 wide from the railroad tracks all the way back to Willhoit's (about a quarter mile), plus all other surrounding lots were full. About 80% were Harleys, quite a few custom choppers, and a few bikes with trailers. Quite a chest thumping rumble once all 1500+ fired up the pipes. Took about 20 minutes for the entire pack to pull out. No idea how they all made it through the lights and traffic all the way down to Arlington.

I think adding G-vine to the start locations lightened the load on the Ft Worth end. Didn't seem as many bikes as usual.
I was counting BMWs and other odd makes and they were down this year. Counted BMWs on one hand. Only saw 2 Ducks and 1 MotoGuzzi. Jeez the Boss Hogs outnumber the Italian makes!
Stunters were up this year I think. As were stretch-frame Busa's. Saw a ton of them.
If you have HD in your portfolio, you would've stood on the side of the road with a tear in your eye... The Motor Company is makin' a Bazillion.
Didn't stay for the whole thing, when the bikes started thinning, we headed for Braums and got a Double Dip. Cherry Pecan for me! ;)
Nice day to be a rider.

Ice Cream sounds good, but I'm glad I didn't have to ride with the crowd. Harley's are definitely popular.

Yeeha! Stephen said:

I just got home at 8:15. Myself, Chris (stinky92384745???), and Steve (Centerline) headed down to Hico after dropping off the toys. Steve had to turn back early, but Chris and I made it down to the Koffee Kup just in time for some dinner.

Great day of riding.

I found a spot just east of Carrier in Grand Prairie and it had a great view in the distance (but a lot of construction and construction vehicles in the foreground). I was joined by Chris (crndallas) and his friend for most of it.

The head end arrived somewhere around 1:20 PM and the last bike went by about 2:00. There was one big gap where it looked like the end but there were still headlights in the distance (binoculars sure help!) indicating more to come.

I was able to spot my son and his buddies. Pictures are uploading, more to come...

Oh yeah, a little behind the tail end was a Corvette group!

Pictures, all have a larger size available by clicking the visible one...

Sitting on the "curb", waiting for the bikes

(that's Chris (crndallas) and friend)

Using binoculars, I could see a section of I30 between the trees but mostly the cars going the other way. Until the stream of headlights started...
Here they come!

Police escort on the front.

Chick on a bike! There were quite a few sport and sport-touring bikes this year.

There were bikes with trailers

Can trikes be in Two Wheeled Texans?

There was lots of waving and horn honking

My main reason to be in this spot was to catch my son, Sam, and his friends that live in the Plano/Sachse area and were riding together. I figured my son's yellow Gixxer would be easier to spot than his buddies' silver & black bikes, but I got several false alarms:

I know I saw him but was worried that I missed his buddies. I was looking at the photos in reverse order and got this:

At least my son is friendly. That's Toby, a workmate, on the Suzuki Boulevard.

Now I am worried that his friends were in front of him & I missed them.
But that might be Jared and Laura on the Buell Lightning:

(the clue is the yellow front end behind them)

Hooray! Gold! I quick call to Sam verified the jacket colors and that Idan had a "dog" on the back of his Zuk SV650!

A little further back (Sam, Jared/Laura, Idan)

And the whole group (don't you wish I just did it in sequence?) :-P

And off they go toward Arlington

Sometimes it's just best to be lucky and have your D70 set to "motor drive" :trust:
