Post your Day Rides Here!

I took a new rider and a couple of more experienced cruiser riders from church out Saturday morning. We probably looked like an odd bunch as we set out from the 7-11 in Glen Rose with my FJR in the lead and a Harley Triglide riding sweep to seek out some of the twistiest roads Somerville County has to offer last Saturday. Since the primary purpose of the ride was to build the confidence and experience of our new rider friend I figured having the big (visible) Tricycle in the rear might be a good idea for more than one reason. I wasn't sure how fast we'd be able to go or how much of the 130 mile route I'd drawn up would get ridden.

The ride was a total success. By the end of the day the tires on the new guys Fat Boy weren't squared off anymore and he was starting to look a lot more comfortable. It was really rewarding to see a new rider grow and learn. I talked to him Sunday and he was still ecstatic about it and shocked by how slick the crossing at Oden Chapel was. The two more experienced riders had a great time despite the slow pace (even for cruisers).

We ended up going to Loco Coyote and the food was pretty good again under this new owner. They're making their own beer battered onion rings again and I almost made myself sick eating so much. The ribs were cooked to perfection but the seasoning was different than what Hammond used. I suppose so people can season them to their taste with the sauce. Regardless, they were still good and I had a hard time finishing the plate. The beans were perfectly acceptable.
I've been trying to remember the Loco Coyote! Thanx for posting. Gotta get out that way soon!

If my experience was any indication then it’s good again.

Get there early. We got there at about 1120 and got one of last tables. There had to be about 100 motorcycles there by the time we left. There were also about 20 cars from the 1920’s and 30’s there too in addition to all the normal cagers.

I should have taken some pictures.

100 bikes, that's cool!

I forgot I took this picture. The bikes were parked all the way around the pavilion and were three or four deep in places lined up along the front.

It was mostly Harley’s and other cruisers but there was a Super Ten, a pretty new Multistrada, and at least one MT09.

As I was leaving there was another big group coming in that had some sort of KTM adv bike up front. Might have been a 950 or 990.

Glenn St John and I did some Eastside of 45 exploring. More water(lot more) than I expected. And still lots of FS roads still closed. Tempted to check them out but that 5000 dollar fine notice stapled to barricades changes my mine, lol. The longest crossing, we got to bridge, surveyed the other side and decided to turn around. Just looked too deep. Great morning ride still.

Did a little ride on the 30th from Gatesville to the Regency Bridge. Had about 225 mile loop mapped out, but only did about 160 of it due to my carburetor acting up. Still better than a day at work!

Rode about 600 miles in the last day or so, from Rogers to Eminence, Mo and back. I had plans to go further, but some really heavy thunderstorms moved through SE Mo and N central Arkansas so I spent the morning dodging heavy rain and lightning..
Cool chopper in ES.
White river where Sylamore creek meets it.
Warm fork city park in Thayer, MO
Lovely church porch that saved my bacon this morning! In Hardy, AR.
An Edsel also in Hardy, after breakfast.
Cotter Bridge over the mighty White river.
Dirt track, and no one around!

Little back road/dirt road riding with lunch at Drifters. About 150 miles, by 3 it was 95* and I'd had enough! Enjoy lunch and people watching at Drifters. Mostly the cruiser crowd but little of everything. So far nothing said to me nor seen any hint of trouble. I enjoy it and great burger.

Looks like a good place to drop this-

I recently returned home from 10 days at the North part of Padre Island. (south of Port A & Mustang Island)

(for mr72- No skeeters, but tar balls a plenty)

I purposely bough this XT 250 for this trip and future similar trips as it was my best compromise of cheap to me, light enough to haul on the back of my travel trailer and not too terribly small. I mounted Rocket launchers to haul two fishing poles. Strapped a tackle box down to the back rack and hauled fish home in the backpack cooler.

All went as planned except for the blistering winds for the first 4 days and lack of fishing skills on my behalf- although fish were caught and eaten.

Cruising down the beach front (chasing birds working and such) was a hoot.
I received many a thumbs up and approving head bobs when skirting through town or up and down the beach.
In hindsight- the TW200 with its fatty tires would have probably handled the lose sand better, but oh well - I skied in first gear when transversing the powder to get around vehicles and such. (when high tide had the trucks parked towards the soft stuff- I would maneuver around slowly as to not cross between the vehicles and waterfront).

It got a thorough washing once home, but I know the salt will find its way into places where I wish it weren't- hence buying a somewhat sacrificial, yet fun scooter to do this on.

(and to clarify.... this bike never rode through any salt water- just got close a time or two 👍 )

I was stationed at NAS Corpus for 3-1/2 years - EVERYTHING TURNS TO RUST!!!!

A good wash, and staying out of the wet as much as possible, is all you can do.

Been wanting a dual sport for a while and looked really hard at the CRF300L's. @Trail Boss made a good argument for why he likes the CRF300 Rally. All of his points are very logical and correct, however I just could not resist the lure of the 450 when I found one that appeared to be a decent deal. Picked up a '21 CRF450RL on Thursday. Went over it this morning and took care of several things like suspension settings, reset the TPS, set the Vortex ECU to a starting point I was comfortable with, took a bunch of slack out of the throttle cable, and set tire pressure. Checked all fluids, etc.

Took it out for a 65 mile loop, hitting as much gravel as possible, the rest smaller hard surface roads. I think I will like it. The plan is to basically set it up as a light adventure bike. Would like to get to Big Bend and maybe some BDRs and dual sport rides. One of the first things I need to do is get a bigger fuel tank (which I knew) as the low fuel came on at 62 miles. I made sure it was full before I left so I need to stay off the throttle a bit I guess. Ran it here a bit on the turn track, it will do it but it is not the GasGas. On the road it is not the best at creature comfort but is not bad, just don't compare it to the RT, it is a dirt bike. Felt like I was breaking the law for the entire ride.

Just need some better places to ride it.

Took my little ride out to Drifters for lunch. FM 149 hangout on racer road from Houston to Yankees in Carlos. Got there ar noon, biggest crowd I've seen. Pretty much split between sportbikes and cruisers. Handful of adv and ds bikes. By the time I left most had left too! 94* will do that. I was parked by a big HD cruiser, he was headed out no shirt and baseball cap. Here I was hiding from his eyesight in my padded riding pants and mesh jacket with a helmet! Whatever floats your boat I guess.

11$
Burger, chips, drink. Look at neat bikes for free, lol. Not into the HD scene but usually a few Euro models to see. Lot of sport bikes run this rd out of Houston.
