Wife was gone for the weekend so I took advantage of it. Got out for 50 miles or so on the RT on Friday evening. Then Saturday ended up running a 150 mile loop before it got to hot. Today I took the CRF out for another 55 or so miles. Overall a pretty nice weekend.

No great photo ops but took a couple when I stopped for a drink.

So it is time for Rachel (16) to start learning how to ride a bike with a clutch so she can eventually get her license and start riding with Sarah, Daniel, and myself. I bought this 2023 Yamaha XT250 in December 2023 from a gentleman in Louisiana that was having to stop riding because of medical issues. He made us a fantastic deal and the bike had 830 miles on it. He hadn’t even gotten it dirty! Then life got in the way for Rachel because it was gymnastics season, the summer heat hit after that, and now that it is finally cooling off, she’s ready to go! We started off with her just sitting on the bike to get familiar with everything. After that, she learned how to start it and we worked on getting her used to the sound of the motor revving and getting a feel for the clutch friction zone. I just had her let it out enough to barely make the bike move and then pull it back in, over and over. After she got the hang of that, I had her just creep forward about 10 feet at a time and stop. The words, “Eyes up!”, were spoken MANY times! 😛This is super common with new riders. They want to look at their hands and feet instead of where they are going! She did great. Then we worked on stretching that 10 feet out to 50, 75, and eventually doing loops in both directions around the yard. She had a few bobbles when stopping because she kept wanting to look down, but she never fell over. I did lay the bike down and show her how to lift it, but she wasn’t able to get it up. We’ll work on that. It has a lot to do with proper technique. All in all, for a first time on the bike and using a clutch, she did really well. I’ll keep doing these drills for a while until she has the muscle memory to work the clutch and brakes without having to think about it. Then we’ll start working on shifting gears, slightly more speed and riding around the neighborhood. She’ll be in full gear for all that. Once she’s comfortable with basic operation and looks like she’s ready, we’ll see about her doing the Motorcycle Safety Course and getting her license. She’s quite excited about being able to join us on our rides.

I noticed that as well. Gonna have to tell her to keep it in her mouth or it will get caked in dirt. Worst case, you bite the end off in a get off! :eek2:

I can't believe that is Rachel. Time has flown by so fast. She will be out riding with the rest of you soon.

Like @SilverBullet says ATGATT. All it takes is a panic moment and a whisky throttle event to get exciting real quick. A mechanical failure of the bike can get interesting real quick also.

So Daniel did a thing yesterday evening… He bought himself a 2018 KTM 690 Enduro R from Glenn St John. All the way home all I keep hearing over the communicator is, “Man this thing wheelies way easier than my 390 Adventure!!” 😂 So of course we had to go for a ride today. Glenn St. John met us and we had a surprise guest join us on a BMW 310 GS, Pete. We wiggled our way through the sand and gravel up to Buffalo and the back down to Centerville for lunch at Woodys BBQ. From there Glenn and Pete had to split off and Daniel and I ran more backroads to Huntsville. We had to get to our Church by 6:00pm for a special service. It was great. Then we ran a few more miles of dirt before the last light of the day faded to reveal a thin sliver crescent moon and one of the planets right next to it. We topped off the bikes before heading to the house, 280 miles of fun! He LOVES the 690! It has 70 hp versus about 40 hp for his 390 and I think it even weighs a bit less, so it will get up and go. In fact, it will lift the front off the ground in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd! He was doing that all day 😂
