Rocks, Dust and loose screws... Gotdurt's B-day ride (Video!)

Nice meeting everyone, and seeing some old friends. I had a great time riding and hanging out w/ everyone, let's do it again soon!

I go almost every weekend, so it's not too hard luring me to BC for a ride. :)

????????
Does this place have stuff thats pretty tame[two track] to the point you could just cruise around.
No technical stuff.

Sure there is much harder stuff in the park.Pict's Ive seen show some kinda easy stuff to do.

Oh, sure, the vast majority of the over 80 miles of trails is easy enough to (carefully) ride a sport standard (Bandit etc) on, if you wanted. There's everything from smooth dirt roads to easy double track to moderate single track and extreme rock crawling (from what I've heard, I didn't actually make it to the extreme areas). Yep, something for everyone.

Very cool vids and pics:cool2: Thanks!:rider: I gonna hafta check that place out real soon.

I didn't see anything on their site about rain closeures. Looks like the singletrack would soak up rain pretty quick.:trust:

That other group.... pics and video.

OK we parked in a different spot. Since we didn't know where we were going we just stopped and the biggest shade tree that we could see. I was able to talk 4 of my friends into going for a ride. Me along with my BIL David and co-workers Chris, Phil, and Jaime.

We had no clue were to go first so we just mounted up and took off in a general the general direction of uphill. Chris and Phil spotted a single track that looked inviting called Pop-a-Top so they split off from David and I. Jaime had not arrived yet, he would meet up with us around lunch time. Anyway, David and I kept going toward the end of the road. We took a wrong turn and ended up behind these guys.

They had left their rides and were a bit up the creek bed clearing brush for a trail over the rocks. The terrain was pretty rough. This was the flattest spot we could find to park.

David and I had decided to just cruise around and see as much of the ranch as we could. The rest of our little group were much more interested in tearing through the trees on the single track. David and I continued north and east to the end of the road. The views were really impressive from the tops of the hills. The main feature is a radio tower that can be seen from any hilltop on the ranch. Find that and you can figure out where you are, generally. There is a road that leads up to the tower and some of the best views.

There are trails that follow much of the fence line. A good way to really see the place.

The trails cross creek beds at many places. The water crossings on the roads were easy enough but some others were more challenging. If there was recent rain runoff they would all be more of a challenge. Here Phil's KLR powers by Jaime as he's trying to restart his XRR.

These videos show the general type of roads David and I road most of the day.

David and I stopped by the TWT encampment and met several of the folks there. The whole day riding David and I only saw other riders a couple of times. That shows how big the place is. My new old DRZ ran great all day long. Then as the day was ending Rusty and Casey stopped and shared stories of the day with us before we all headed for the gate. It was a great day riding and meeting new Friends.

Re: That other group.... pics and video.

Can you make an attempt at explaining where this was :lol2: I know, it's a big place and can be quite confusing at times...

I do hope they work on refining their maps a bit... maybe do better color coding and name some trails/ landmarks, etc

Hmmmm. :ponder: We took the two way trail just southwest of the area where we were parked. There is a single track that ctus of to the right of the two way trail. This is were the single track meets back up with the "road". You can see the single track trail coming down the hill and dumping into the creek.

Casey, thanks for getting me in the movies (I think). If I had the proper air pressure in my tires I would have made that hill. That is what happens when you run 14.785 psi instead of 15.0125 psi. I should have known. Next time that hill is mine. :rider: ;-)

:lol2: You'll need to use nitrogen to lock in the correct pressure, or maybe even argon. Avoid helium as you will lose traction with the lighter bike. ;-)

:lol2: You learned a good lesson grasshopper, you willl get it right next time...

:lol2: Actually, I think he needed helium to get up that hill :-P

Ah yes Bruce....how simple, I said I should have known.
I guess I will have to go back ASAP for redemption. Even my wife will understand that logic.

I would seriously go back this weekend if not for Houston SX. There won't be too many weekends pass before I do. I can't wait.

Let me know when you do...

nice photos, this place is awesome

I had a bit of hard time on the gravel and hills but gained confidence as the day went on, was able to lead a rider (Canton) to the Summit trail along the fence, OK I pointed which way and he took off like a rocket

near the end I said it was a dead end go ahead and there are steep runs but "wussie" runs along to the right to go around, somehow I got carried away (after falling ealier in the day) and went to the left on the final steep hill, they have these rock ledges as barriers but I clumsly made it over somehow, what a blast

went to Crooked Creek the next day and while trying to take it easy dumped it and did the splits, didnt think much about it but the next day the ribs hurt and woke up in some serious pain, had xrays Tues and everything OK, so still sore, a few weeks and ill be ready to go offroad again
