Well it looks like my luck from yesterday has continued over in to today. I had this report ready to submit and then somehow closed the connection and lost all I had written.................... oh well I'll try it again.

We came, we rode, we shouted (I slammed the truck door on my leg), we visited, we talked, we laughed, we screamed (I caught the tip of my right middle finger in a boot strap/metal snap), we cheered, we enjoyed the woods, we fell (wet boots on a metal trailer ramp) and we generaly had a blast................... OK change the we to I cause I don't think anyone else was stupid enough the close their own truck door on their leg, mash a finger putting on their boots and then taking a trip down the trailer ramp due to wet soles on their boots.

More about the benefit and not my attempt to injure myself. We raised over $5000 for Erik and his family. Here's to all that made it possible  I would have really liked to have seen more riders out but it wasn't a bad turn out for a holiday weekend so here's to all that made it out

I heard Erik made a surprise appearance but it must have been while I was tending to medical issues of our group of three or it was after our early departure.

As said, we made an early departure after one of my group decided to test his safety gear in actual field conditions. I glad to report the equipment functioned as expected but now I have to buy a new helmet and chest protector because his tested ones worked but didn't survive the test. But AC Cobra can now say he has ridden on a Quad (the EMS Quad)

and Pops (Woodsguy) has now ridden an '07 KX65. Still not sure what happened, Kyle can only remember part of it. At first it concerned him because he couldn't remember the crash but he can remember enough we pieced it together. In short he tried to plow a line in the dirt, head first.
Black eye just forming..........

It looks a little darker today.

I had planned to take pictures all day long but was too busy riding the trails with Kyle earlier to stop and take pictures so I took a few at the Pit Bike Race. We also had the kids racing a little, not really Pit Bikes but they were on smaller bikes so we called it Pit Bike racing also. These are in no special order because when I uploaded them to Photobucket the order got mixed up when I hit the edit button to roatate a couple of them from horizonal to vertical.

For those of you that have not met Pops, he's pretty tall. I can't believe Tony did not get a pic of this!

Man... this look says it all... :lol2:

Glad he is okay and the gear did its job!

Alex had the camera when Pops came by and was just handing it to me so he could go get ready for his race. Wish I had that photo too.

Robbie was sporting quite the arm wound this morning in Sunday school. Did you see that one happen?

He was somewhere over the hill around the same area Kyle went down in his race so I didn't see it but I heard he had landed wrong and either went over the handlebars on Emily's bike or tumbled with her bike. I did see him back at the truck trying to put her bars back where they belonged but didn't get the chance to talk with him.

Nothing to it! Just put your knees in front of the bars!

Tony, thanks for the excellent report and great pictures as usual!

Hope your son is alright! I didn't know he hit his head, I was worried about his shoulder. He wouldn't lift it at first!

Later Pops

I really expected more people to show up, but any amount is better than none. Didn't get to meet Pops but ran into Howard (BigMaico) who I met earlier this year and a couple other acquaintances I've crossed paths with at SHNF over time. Was good to ride with Alex in the morning and catch up to him at the intersections. The pit bike race was fun to watch. I did see a dirt cloud on the back sweeper and didn't realize it was Kyle until I saw him climb onto the quad. I was still walking to the back as there was no one there to watch the corner yet. Can't see the pictures here at work but can imagine what his shiner looks like. Seemed like the googles did it, by looking at him back at the truck. Oh well, it'll give him some macho stuff to talk about with his friends.:lol2: I didn't see Erik because I was on the trails. I didn't figure he'd actually be there.

After the Massey clan left, I hit the trails again for a couple more hours or so and got some play time in on the the MX track. I worked on blowing up the berms for about an hour and tried not to endo off the jumps. I think I hovered more than jumped on most of them.. I wish SHNF had this for me to practice on. I'd like to try 3 palms some day but that's a dramatically different place with a dramatically different skill requirement. I've been planning on a lesson with the pro there but have yet to get to it. Not planning on being an MX rider, just applying some MX skills to be a better XC rider.

All things considered, I had a good time at Outlaw. Good luck to Erik too.

Bob, I was there!!!! Sorry I didn't get to meet you! I had to work and didn't arrive till noon. Didn't even bring a bike, had to go back to work that night.

I'd love to take a rain check at Outlaw with you, my treat, just let me know!

He's doing good, doesn't appear to be any lasting problems. The arm is moving it's full range and the shinner is shining.... :trust: He has now received I think three black eyes due to mishaps and his goggles have been the cause each time. I think he is already looking for his next helmet.

Dang, wish I'd known that. Y'all were standing just a few feet from each other after we got back to the truck following the Pit Bike races. I finally got to meet Howard, had read many of his posts on KTMTalk and heard a lot about him but never met him until this weekend.

You should meet Howard's friend Don. Got quite a collection of vintage iron that he likes to restore. He hasn't been on his 25+ year old husky since the Lifeisgoo0d get together. Been wrenching on the R60/2, Guzzi and an Ariel sqaure 4 from what I hear.
