And anodder report...
Susan (tortuga) and I met with several other riders at the Minyards off I20 in SW Arlington a few minutes before 7:00 AM. Soozy (Soozy) and Stever (Teryxer) and Wendy (wendy and steve) were already there.
You have heard of the Cone-heads? Well, here Steve and Wendy disguise themselves as traffic cones...
(I think these jackets do that to you)
We were joined by a group of three from Bedford, seen here gassing up
This was:
Dan (DFW Dano)
Kelly (Skull of Energy)
Mark (tuckertaft)
The dress of the day was DayGlo but the Bedford group apparently did not get the memo.
Did I mention that it was a bit nippy? Like 42 degrees? There hadn't been enough time to get used to cold temps yet, so we (me, at least) were eyeing the sun coming up to the left as we rode south, hoping it would add a few British Thermal Units to the air.
We took a quick stop in Blum (north of Whitney) to warm up a bit. Here is the temp gauge on Steve and Wendy's Beemer:
We stopped again in Valley Mills for petrol and a pit stop. Then it was a mad dash down 317 and 95 towards Hutto. The nice short stretch of 29 and 1660 at the end was the best part of the ride, I think. Thanks, Kurt!
We arrived just a bit late and lots of folks were already there:
and more were arriving as we were dismounting and looking around.
Eventually, it looked like this:
As folks started to get hungry and go inside, we found some people we knew:
This is Dave (terrebandit). He moved from East Texas to Austin and I had not seen him for a while...
Now, here is what happens when you forget and leave your camera at Phil's (pkiser) and Steve's (RockmanTx) table
They also got a photo of Steve (Seahog) and Veronica (Shehog - not sure if she likes that screen-name)
After Phil graciously returned my camera, here is a shot at our end of the table
That's Wendy, Steve, Soozy, and Ed (Grumpy)
And Kelly and Mark took to the food, too
Everyone finally filtered back outside where it was actually starting to get hot!
Squeaky organized a group picture of the TWT admins and moderators in attendance:
Kinda like herding cats. The faces are Scott (Tourmeister), Rusty (Woodbutcher), Chuck (Gilk51), Matt (STrider), Kurt (kurt), and Rebecca (Squeaky). We tried to get Beth (Blue Bomber) over but she was too busy with the kiddos.
A found Dave again as he was about to ride off
And Fray Adjacent (didn't get or forgot his real name
)
I counted at least 3 scooters of various types there.
Next to Fray was Fred (Red Brown)
This 80s vintage Yamaha got a lot of attention
It is always interesting to see what Kurt will be riding - a Buell Ullyses today
And the two yellow Whee Stroms were popular - maybe Kathy (ladyrider) on the right might end up on one.
(resistance is futile
)
Finally, everyone got going to their next destination or event. Now, here is an adventuresome couple riding 2-up on a KTM:
Wendy and Steve took off to Waco to do some shopping and the rest of our little group pretty much did our route in reverse up to Cleburne and I35W. Then we split up, most heading for home, and Soozy heading to the Pacman and Ms. Pacman party.
I passed Janet on the way home - she was headed for the party, too.
Susan and I didn't last long - we were pooped and went to bed early...
All in all, a great time with the good folks from TWT...
