Yup.... just got home about 10 minutes ago myself. Butt is a tad sore, and luckilly I didn't eat food, just had Pie... so feeling okay. :-)

Made it home at 5:15, for a total of 11 hours and 45 minutes door to door. 495.4 miles... Forgot my Camelbak at home. Ooof. Next time I'm going to make this an overnight trip, I'd like to spend more time on those curvy east Texas roads. It was nice to see everyone! :chug:

Got back in at about 5:30, a real nice ride day though I wish I had brought my camelback too. I tossed a few red bulls in my tailbag after lunch when I detoured to a town for gas.

I decided to try to see what kind of little county roads there were between Dallas and Edom, I was successful in finding a few dirt roads and a couple interesting spots. I ran down 175 and jumped off on county roads before Kaufman and ran down through Scurry and on out east.

I started doin the dirt thang, but I slid the back out and had to stab my sprained ankle down to save it, ouch!, I slowed down and just putted through after that, jammin on the MP3 player. Man of constant sorrow made a real good soundtrack for it, with a little Earnest Tubb and Jimmy Rodgers.

First stop for a smoke, on a nice real dirt road at little iron bridge that looks like a very old one.

I checked it over and couldn't see a plate for who made it and when, nice little place for a break though.

Found it's sister bridge a little ways down the road I guess, replaced by a new concrete one besid it I took the pic from.

A little ways later I ran into another little wooden bridge, so as long as I'm takin bridge pics....

And yet another wooden bridge...

After that my luck finding dirt ran out, but the little one lane county roads were very nice to ride anyway with a good dirt bike suspension.

Another break spot in the shade, not too many miles east of Edom, lookin both ways.

Bikes at the shed in Edom

A neat old timey house with a historical marker on the way home...

A bad attempt at getting artsy fartsy...

The trip back I circled south around some big lake, and came up west to see if I could find anything neat on litte back roads around the Trinity river. Not much dirt, not much to see, found one old decomissioned concrete road that looks like one of the ones Roosevelts poor corps built way back when, but was gated off a few miles down at some guys ranch.

So I grabbed I-45 north and hauled it into town, I did learn two things. My newer KTM does have rev limiter, and it makes a fair freeway beater. had to stop and rest the keester though...

Another little adventure done, Where's the next pie run to?

:tab Dude, you might want to add a little air to the back brake line :-P I love roads like the one with all the bridges. Very cool. There are tons of roads like that as you get farther East and South. I hit some great little roads on the way up to meet the guys for the last Arkansas trip. I wish you lived closer so we could go exploring together :-|

Was the throttle that slid it out on this one, turning into a gravel road from a paved one, or more corectly semi paved. The more miles I put on it the stronger and smoother it seems to run. :)

I also recommend the blackberry cobbler with ice cream at the shed.

Crap! How did I miss this? There I was, out tooling around on my own, making the countryside generally unsafe, when I could have been riding with a purpose! Being new to the board, I'm a TWTEX pie virgin (though I've eaten enough pie in my life to feed any country ending in 'stan') and am looking forward to hooking up with the group! I thought the next pie meet was at the end of Oct. At least that's what was listed in the "Travelling Meets for 2005" sticky in the rides and events forum. Am I looking in the wrong spot? Is there still going to be a pie meet on the 29th at the Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls?

I'm bummed that I missed this one...

We had a good time as well. Traveled some "shine runner" roads that Paw Paw showed me years ago around Hoard and Mineola. Stopped to smell the Piney Woods a few times, and did the slab back home. My kiddo was getting hot and sleepy but never complained, not that I could hear over the crosswinds. 288 miles is her new iron but record. We made Denton Co.@ 4:45.
She says you peeps are cool, awesome and interesting, compliments from a 14 year old. She loved the variety of bikes and people too.

Lessons Learned : 1) Coconut pie, steamed cabbage and Lemon Propel will give you buffalo breath. Fix with 2 cold Buds when you get home.
2) Riding w/ pillion in cross-winds is tough, and you worry a lot more when it's your kid.
3) Grasshoppers are like bullets on your shins at 70 mph.

Until next time, ride safe.

JB and DB.

This one was supposed to be last weekend, but was bumped back one week due to the hurricane. The next one is for October 29th, but I thought it was supposed to be in Hico at the Koffee Kup? Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong on the location.

Kelly

I'm so sorry I missed this one. If I could have gotten a full night's sleep, I would have gladly made the ride out.

Instead, I woke up at 11am, met a friend for lunch, then we rode around locally making for an easy day. Didn't even rack up 100 miles.

Yes, it is supposed to be Hico, according to the Pie Master, WC. (also know as Chris, Topher, WC, Zim, etc.)

Just wanted to say thanks to Stuart for leading us up and back. We had a great time and I hate leading.

We made it to The Shed in Edom. We passed John (VFRJohn from McKinney) on the way in - he turned around and followed us in. Dave (terrebandit) is a local and thinks his 2000 SV-650 is one of the best looking models. I have to agree - I really like the frame on this one.
john_dave_bikes_0406q.jpg

Marvin is another local - you don't see these purty Z1000s too often.

Will (birdwh) is about to leave to go back to Austin. His Triumph seems lost in a sea of bikes.

Karen (MaxiScoot) and Scott (SabreScott) arrived late after most everyone was finished. Claire (bobcat) looks on from the right side.

Yes, it's The Shed.
shed_0410q.jpg

They had a large wait staff & actually, pretty fast service. I really liked it - food was good and staff was friendly. Now the cell phone coverage could use a boost...

I also enjoyed my tablemates - Larry (jetblue) and his very fun and friendly daughter, Lauren (DaddysBaggageX3), and, of course, Claire (bobcat) the adventurer.

Kudos to the Tyler group who kept The Shed updated as to what we were doing. And then they really showed up! Cool bunch of guys. :clap

(oh yeah - if you click on an image, you get a REALLY big one...)

It was my pleasure! All but the first hour leaving out of Huntsville in some pretty thick fog and 7 a.m.. Then there was that one road on Scotts route that turned into DIRT! How come none of us where surprised?:rofl

The Houston group consisted of Steve/Rita, Howard, Mark (Texian) and myself. We cruised up in just over three hours, making the Shed before they shutdown breakfast at 10:30. Food was very good and the custard pie was outstanding!

We headed back around noon and I made Spring about 3:15 p.m. 402 miles dooor to door. The only thing hungrier then TWT's for pie, was the road for my back tire. It was three cords to the wind by the time a pulled in!

It was great to see some old faces like John,Will,Bo and Mike and meet lots of new ones! :chug:

a wonderful ride. could not ask for nicer weather. i really enjoyed meeting all of you and i look forward to riding on more events. i flew back to Montana monday and i got here to find drizzly rain and cold.... no bike riding here for a few days but it will clear up soon and i will be back on my klr650 up here. i hope to be back in texas in the next few weeks and will try to coordinate it with the hico pie run..

what a thrill it was for me to see all those awesome bikes parked at the shed.... like a kid being in a candy store.... wish i could buy more bikes..... oh well........
