This will be my first actual RR so be gentle. You all know me as Nomadicfireman, aka-The guy with Bruce, aka-The guy with the monkey, aka-The guy with CBAT. This trip will be with a fellow named Chuck. He missed out on this ride back in 07 due to his Goldwing being in he shop so I thought we would retrace with a few changes. We met at the Y in Oakhill at 0730
Chuck has his own business and rides a 06 Goldwing with 86000 miles on the clock. I'm an Austin firefighter and I am riding an 09 ConcoursABS with 10000 miles. Notice the monkey made the switch.
We ended up stopping at every Walmart along the way. Either for fuel or various assundries. These fine ladies retold stories of the "old days" when they used to ride. Pretty sure they were hogs

Chuck was having some issues with fuses. I'm one of those people that has no problems helping others with breakdowns but go nuts if it's my stuff.
We needed to eat in San Angelo. I followed my GPS(Gutteral positioning system), into downtown and found this great place. Food was excellent as well as the service.

The weather was great and we were enjoying the day
We made our way to Roswell and stopped for fuel. A local told us about Farleys so we gave it a shot.

I had made reservations at the Motel6 in Ruidoso. Bruce and I stayed here during our Continental Divide trip and were very happy with the service. Tom, the general manager, remembered me and began recounting the CDR trip to others in the lobby. He is one of the friendliest people I have ever met and always went out of his way to make our stay a good one.
Hot water is good for our old bones.

I wanted to take 244 to Cloudcroft and beyond. I obviously missed the road. We went about 5 miles down this dirt road thinking it was 244 being worked on. I finally had enough and back tracked to 70 and found it, well marked btw. I SUCK!! We did get to see some wild horses, turkey and possibly a mexican wolf. Still checking on that.
If you have never ridden the road to Timberon, you are missing out. I'd be curious to hear from someone that has done the Dragons tail and this road to compare the two. The paved portion ends at this sign then goes into a neighbourhood and beyond.
We did the road non-stop on the way down then stopped at Sunspot solar observatory and a lookout on the way back.

We then made our way to Pinion. Last ride we stopped at this store for refreshments. It's closed so bring some.
We made our way back to Cloudcroft and tried Big Daddy's Diner, good stuff!
After feeding the machines, we rode down 82 to Alamogordo then back up 70 to Ruidoso. 82 is the more scenic of the two.
We stopped at one of the Pistachio farms along the highway. Can't recall the name but the statue of the nut is a good landmark.
These two shared a common bond. They're both nuts.
