:sun: I went for a test ride this morning at Pro Powersports in Conroe. I expected a crowd but I was the only one there. The dealership staff were all friendly folks.
After filling out a computer info/ questioner, I was shown how the controls work and did a little test run in the parking lot to get a feel for it. There is no hand brake and I found myself grabbing air a time or two. It steers like a 4 wheeler but with much more precision. It corners really well and brakes are excellent. It has ABS and traction control so it would be hard to get out of shape from too much throttle. The Rotax engine is 990cc and has a really wide power band. I got a chance to take it up close to 3 digits on the speedo . Really smooth transmission and ride, overall a lot of fun to ride. Nice deep trunk up front also. RH

First I heard about test drives. Might have tried to do it I had known but then again I had to work so I guess my riding one was out of the question.

They've got a yellow one at Granbury Motorsports. I was in and out yesterday and didn't have time to ride it, but it surely looks cool!

They are $16500. They will be giving rides in Conroe thru 5-29-08. They close at 6:30 weekdays. The schedule for other locations is on the Can-Am web site. RH

Thanks for the info, I may go check one out next weekend too.

The more I see of these the more I am liking them. If you have had a chance to ride one, please post up your impressions of it. Very good looking ride imho.

Looks like a lot of fun, with a little practicality. Price is a bit high, at least to me.

It's widder than I thought it would be... I came up on one going up to Loveland a couple of weeks back... had an older woman on it. She was all smiles as I was passing her, waving back to her :sun:

It is a sharp looking vehicle. :trust: I did have an invite/flyer to take one for a test ride :rider:

Broadway yamaha in Tyler quoted me right under 16K. They've got a yellow one sitting out front, but I didn't have time to ride it either.

Does anyone know if you have to have a motorcycle license to test ride one of these? On the website it only said that you have to be capable of riding one, not that you have to have a license. Not a problem for me, but my wife is kind of interested.

I too have ridden the spyder:sun:

as far as the brakes go it is fantastic, only a foot brake just like on most bikes, they are ABS and will stop you great. no hand brake.

the best way to describe how you ride it is just like an ATV, which to me would take a little time to get use to, you lean but just to shift your weight not to steer the bike.

nice dash, good size trunk in the front.

has a real reverse, not like a goldwing. 5 speed forward. belt drive. turn signals turn off automatic. the engine is 990cc and I got it up to 85 with more to go.

comes in 3 colors, the only one you have not seen is the red one.

still have 2 days to test ride it at the dealer Rick and I went to.

When i said to my wife they look like a Jet Ski with wheels
she replied "its the same company which makes them"... SkiDoo

Good enough reason... GO FIGURE!!

The riding positon felt almost sportbike!!

This thing looks so much better in these pics than what I saw on the website...if they knock $10k off the price I'm down to get one!

Amazingly fast considering mass and weight(it's heavy!) Handling is very good once you get used to NOT leaning in the corners. Very stable at speeds over 100mph and offers a moderate amount of wind protection. Handling is very good although the Computer Nanny prohibits most monkey business before you have a chance to lift a wheel or get any of the tires into a drift. It has the power to spin the rear tire for 2 gears as long as you are going straight but the minute it starts to step out the Nanny shuts the fun off. Perhaps a great way to limit liability and prevent stupid people from rolling over but still a little annoying. I also felt a twinge of guilt when hammering the rear brake pedal, yeah I know its linked ABS but your brain still says "Rear Brake Pedal" every time you step down, and no front brake lever is a little panicky at first.
Reverse gear works fine and has plenty of power to pull up over curbs or up hills.
All in all I'd say its a well rounded package

I'm going to try and go ride one this saturday in baytown.
did anybody slide around or off quad style while cornering? I can already tell though that I'm not going to like the traction-nanny, it would be fun to get the rear kicked out a bit

I found that when cornering fast/hard under the Nanny's sight lines the bike did have consierable G's on your upper body and it seemed to help to move inboard, which felt really weird. I would say that for around $9K it would be great but $16K no way!
