Well, I had a perfect plan all lined up to go to Arkansas and ride with a buddy that lives up there. Spend several days riding Ouachitas and Ozarks, then leave my bike there, fly home. Then Arkansas got more rain in the last month than they have had since Noah’s maiden voyage. Campgrounds closed, roads hit pretty hard, more rain coming this week. So now I’m going nowhere?

Too late, I done got the bug. I’m going somewhere. Debated whether to do a ride report at all. Then if I do…..same ol intro and same ol blah blah blah? But I got to thinking about the bottle caps from the 70s…..so here is the lead up:

Warning, the answer to the riddle follows: Going somewhere solo. Somewhere in the southern US. On two wheels. Packing light, to prosper. Sleep wherever I can. Eat what I want. Drink the nectar. I will be merry. That is all.

The bike. For this run I slapped the big tank back on, put my street gearing back on, threw on the new TKC80 front that came with the bike. Rear tire, I just mounted a healthy knobby a month ago. Packing—I hate, I mean hate, having a bulky pack, weight etc. But when you are camping, riding solo…..it is really hard to pair things down. I’m not happy, did what I could/was comfortable with . The plan. Go west. Sleep in the dirt. See some stars. Only thing left is to do it, do it, do it.

Nine Fiddy is looking back at me, where the heck is the dirt? Easy big feller, we’ll get on some, I promise.

Ahhh, helmet time, droning, deep in thought, as deep as my pool can go. I was thinking about what to share with you guys today. What is relevant, relatable? Are you guys good with anything I come up with? Or do you get dazed and confused by my references? Alright, alright, alright, is this a problem? Maybe I need to know what decade you most relate to? So how do we measure this? Here is a little test I came up with to see where your brain’s home base lies.

Let me know what decade you relate to the most. I will do my best from there. And that wasn’t sexist, girls can relate as well, hair styles, clothes, eye brows etc. Ok, ok, maybe I will make a timeline with pics of dudes. Or maybe not. But let’s be real, even with this test, will there be a point to my ramblings or will I still be all over the map? Speaking of map, where the heck am I? Going nowhere I suppose.

I used to be all into Sandra, but lost interest as I don't want any nasty Jesse James leftovers. Doesn't matter though, your posts are going to be more all over the place than your ride will be.

Rocking along, meandering merrily. Life is but a dream.

Finally punching out some decent West Texas remote dirt roads. Wish I could live out here. For real for real. You either love it or you hate it. I’m a lover.

Been trying to apply my previous time table test to myself and find my happy place in a given decade. Which decade do I most relate to? First response that popped in my melon, not the one I’m in. Second thought, nope, decided I can’t do it, I will not be pinned down and daydream about just one. I really tried. I find beauty in all of them and wish I could go back and spend time with all of them, the decades. Better stop writing, back to riding.

Oh, ok, in case I receive a lot of hate mail over the chica timeline, here is a dude timeline to keep things fair and balanced. That’s me every time, so here go.

So what is your decade ladies? Or better yet, guys and gals, who would you want to ride with out of either timeline bunch? No brainer for me, McQueen. I know, I know, should have picked Jen.

Man I love this area, never gets old. It’s like time stands still out here for the most part.

I said time, not me.

Scoped out this old school, might be a potential stealth camp spot if needed.

Sun trying to come out, come on dude, I need you!

Snack spot. Not too shabby.

Lunch time. I like stopping in on these super nice folks when passing through, got some jerky, sandwich, cold drink and did some visiting. It’s always hard to leave, the couple that run the place speak ten words a second, with gusts to fifty. Back to going nowhere.

Just back east there is a gravel road that runs all the way to the river. There is a private boat launch called John's Marina. I have some canoe buddies that canoe from Big Bend to there sometimes.

Stevo,
We know your a loner and a rebel but some of us are stuck in our cubical needing a window to the world. Please help us out!

My mind wonders...did you continue slithering west or did you slide south?:coffee:

Patience grass hoppers, I been on the dark side of the moon. Get comfortable, make sure your boss isn’t watching. The rest of yesterday…..Moving on down the road away from civilization. Couldn’t help but stop at these markers.

With the 2 point conversion. Got here at a decent time, was able to set up in the shade and then poke around.

1680192536191.jpeg

I was hot enough that the river was calling me. I took a trail straight out from my camp, you can get there but it’s not a good slip in.

1680193183078.jpeg

Had to hike a click through Da Nang, it was touch and go.

Finally, daddy home.

1680192596480.jpeg

Yes it was cold. Yes I got in. Yes it was worth it.

1680192651336.png

I went to the Mexico side and then came back. No passport needed here.

Back to camp. More fooling around.

It was a big day, flirting with 400 miles. But the temps were great overall and I’m not worn out. Trying to wait out the sunset and the stars.
