Not many dual sport roads around Lubbock. Found this route today.

Nice. You ever ride the trails around Buffalo Springs Lake? I do the triathlon up there every year and some of the trails look a little tough.

Too many 4x4's for me. Afraid I'd get ran over.

I've found that direction to be the most 'adventurous' and scenic direction from here without having to ride 4 hours on a highway first.

There are some fun but sandy county roads that go south from White River Lake and let you make your way back to Spur.

There are some really good looking county roads east of Spur but I haven't had a chance to go out that way. They might end up like some of the roads down around Gail where the TxDOT map says it's a public road but hand made signs and gates say otherwise.

I've got a route planned from Jayton to Kiowa Peak, west of Knox City, that I'm trying out this weekend.

Your pictures show the road from Southland to 207. That is a good one. From 207 go south and then take the first county road back to the east. After you cross the old concrete bridge go left on the next county road (north) if you want a challenge in sand riding. Wheel deep sand on that road. We call it the "short cut" road.

I know all the roads around there as go right by our LTR riding lease. Take the dirt roads to the old "Cowboy Grave" from White River. Sort of hard to find but a fun trip to see something.

That water crossing you show is not much of an issue usually, but I have seen it sweep a motorcycle right off the road there, when it is running good.

Lots of cool old iron bridges around Jayton on some of the dirt roads, complete with little historical plaques. I don't keep track of the road numbers or I would give you more info. Fun to explore around that area eve n though the dirt roads are really easy.

I'd like to check out the "Cowboy Grave". Which way is it from White River?

Man, I wish I had the coordinates but I don't. I pinged some of my riding buddies to see if they did. It has been three or four years since I have been out there to it.

After you cross the WR Dam, there is a dirt road heading back almost straight south. I know it crossed a paved road (maybe the road to Spur?) and kept going. There is just a little triangle pull off the dirt road that goes to the grave. The headstone says something like "Here Lies Billy Sandifer Shot Dead By..." I can't remember the rest.

I know after that I went through a little community called "Red Mud". I can't search Google Earth from work because they have it locked down, but if I get the coordinates I will send them to you.

Thanks! I'll see if I can find it on Google earth.

I used to live out there in the early 80's, raced enduros around Memphis, Jayton and Post. Neat country around the caprock. Sure looks good and green there now, must have had alot of rain this year.

I grew up in Rule. Spent a lot of weekends on the Brazos.

Satch, holler one weekend and we will go on a DS ride. Right now my street legal bike resides in the NM mountains but I will have it back in Lubbock as soon as it cools off more around here.

Satch,
I have a map to the location of the Cowboy Grave. I will send a PM to you once I can get it scanned in. I am not going to post it in this thread because the grave site is technically on private land, although it is right off a County Road and access is not restricted, or at least it was not several years ago the last time I was out there.

Thanks for demonstrating proper respect for the landowners, John. Too little of that is another reason why I am so picky about with whom I will ride.

In the case of this particular instance with the grave, it is just right off a county dirt road. and has a used two track path going to it. No fence. not posted, etc. No house or other buildings around either. Clearly the property owner does not restrict the access, so no big deal.

I am really not a fan of posting any off road tracks or routes on forums, even when the areas are 100% public access. I am happy (and love meeting new riding buddies) to show others my favorite spots in an a actual ride, but most public areas with motorized access seem to be getting more and more popular without needing my help. A lot of this is the UTV/Razor group that seems to be getting larger and larger all the time.

Now someone decided NM needs a Discovery Route, and every Walter Mitty that has a GS1200 seems to be wandering around the NM mountains following someone else's GPS tracks. Oh well, just pushes me to explore even more off the beaten path.

Anyway--Satch-- I sent the map to you via PM.

I got the map. I'm gonna try and find it when I get a chance. Thanks!

Rode out to the grave yesterday. There's a weathered sign on the county road and the land owner has a circle drive so people can view it.

satch: are you still in lubbock? I also have a KLR and just moved here. I would love to do some riding with you. I came from the hall county area (about 2hr away) there are some awesome roads between here and there I can show anyone in the area.

I'm still here. I ride with a few friends from work when we get a chance. Would like to explore some of Hall county.

Satch Ive riden that area extensively. I used to have a hunting lease on the white river, or what they call the white river from the old days. It is actually the salt fork brazos river. There is a lot of history of the Commanche indians in this area as Col. Randall MacKensie chased Quannah Parker through Blanco Canyon and up through the north of Pal Duro canyon back in the 1870s. Lots if arrow heads to find and large caliber bullets from the buffalo hunters.
Those punitive mission during reconstruction basically defeated the Commanche after being the lords of the plains for 300 years.
love to ride that area around the double mountains and duck creek at Hwy 380 and Hwy 208. There is an open jail house there that is pretty cool.
I would like to ride it again if you are interested. You have the perfect machine for it.

Satch Im looking for a track I made over three days of riding the caprock on county roads from Gail up through Post, Crosbyton, Macadoo, Whitestar, Quitaque on North. Anyplace I could traverse up and backdown the caprock.
I camped at several places where ranchers let me have access after promising to leave nothing but footprints in the dirt on thier property. Nice hard working ranchers around there.
I'll PM you the track when I find it.
