Well...sorry, but I got off this morning about 30 minutes late. Couldnt make up my mind if I wa going or not, but after listening to the weather a couple of times, I decided it was time to go. Put my Gerbings on and got the plug in and down the road I went. It ended up being a much better run than I was expecting. After I got on the other side of Mineral Wells on I-20, I bumped it up to 80 and hit the cruise control...and was still being passed. Oh well...I stayed at 80 all the way to Abilene. Made a stop in a Exxon station for gas and wa told that I won a 6 pack of coke. They let me trade it for Dr. Pepper, but I still dont know what I did to win. Got to Sweetwater and over to the fair grounds and the place was mega-packed. They had 2 carnival fair things going, a small gun show and the Rattlesnake roundup show. They had a place for bikes to park pretty close to the front on pavement so I didnt have to park inb the back pasture. Just walked by the carnivals but went in to the gun show...not a bad gun show, but the prices are unbelieveable on most guns. Left there and went over to the snake show and I tried to get some pics, but with all the pushing and shoving jockying for position...I guess I am lucky to even get a pic. I wasnt able to get the movie of it...too many bodies in the way...but I saw this guy chop the head off a rattlesnake and then hang it up to field dress it. By the time he got all the innards out of it, 10 minutes had passed. Then he said to a lady in front of me..."Hey lady...look at this!" he cut the heart out of some snake innards and set it on top of this wall thing we were all looking over. The heart was still beating, and kept beating for another 5 to 10 minutes or so. I have never seen anything like that before. In one of the pics, some lady was trying her hand on field dressing a snake. I give her credit...she was right in there getting with it and had no problem getting bloody. There is a pic of a guy milking a snake, but it is sorta blury...sorry...getting bumped around by the little kids euuuuuuuuuin' and awwwwwwin'. One thing about Sweetwater that I had forgot...there are just alot of super nice folks out there. On the way back, Mr DPS Trooper in his trusty black & white were everywhere between Sweetwater and Abilene. I ran it up to about 72 on the speedo and punched in the cruise and kicked back to enjoy the ride. My radar detector chirped all the way to Abilene...50 miles...those guys got busy chasin and writin. While I was easing along at my 72 pace, there was a 4 engine freight train that caught up to me and pulled away from me. I matched his speed and he was running 80, then slowed back down. I didnt think trains ran that fast anymore.
Anyway...weather when I left Fort Worth was 46* and it was 75* in Sweetwater when I saddled up to head back. Had fun and I will go again next year...ya'll come...hear!!
