Since it's more of an equipment piece than a piece of software, I figured I'd post here. This thread will showcase some work I've shot on film, and scanned either from negatives, slides, or prints with my CanoScan 8800F. I'll try to mention any special settings I used with the scans.

Since my C41 process was horribly inconsistent, I'm going to spend a little money to get negatives worth actually scanning. Since the E6 work I've done was on decade-expired Velvia, I've also decided to invest in some new film.

All in all, my intention is to shoot the following films for the sake of comparison and example:
  • Kodak Ektar 100
  • Fujichrome Velvia 100
  • Kodak Portra 400NC
  • Ilford Delta 100
  • Kodak TMAX 400

I will take a similar frame on each film, exposed as near the same way as possible (this will probably involve a tripod and a cable release), both indoors and outdoors. After the "set" shots, I will try to shoot a variety of scenes with each films in order to try and work out the tonal range the scanner is able to reproduce from negatives or slides. To avoid introducing any development errors into the color films, AZ Photo Lab in Houston will be the source of all color film development. I will do the B&W myself to save a little cash, and because I'm reasonably certain I can do that with a great deal of consistency.

Here are the films, awaiting their fate - this will be the only image I post in this thread that was always 1s and 0s.

For the time being, these threads all have images I scanned with this scanner:

I've not exposed a single frame yet, because I've been trying to decide what to use as a 'similar frame.' Since that's getting in my way I'm going to just load the film, and shoot. I'll post frames I like from each film/format as I get them developed and scanned. I hope to have the first examples from these films posted by the end of next week.

Excited to see the results. I actually added that scanner to my Amazon wish list. Have an obscene amount of old negatives I need to do something with. Have you scanned any photos with it yet?

Just updated the original posting with links to other threads where I've posted scans. Eventually I'll post new scans that link to full resolution files if anyone wants to pixel peep.

Ilford FP4+ in Ilford DD-X

So this wasn't one of the originally listed films, but I just developed/scanned it so here goes. All straight off the scanner at 2400dpi. Auto-tone off. Unsharp-mask on.

Well, I took the 35mm Ektar to CVS and got it back good and scratched up. Not too crazy about the results either and I don't know if that's a result of their process or mine. Either way, here are some straight off the scanner @ 2400dpi scans.

I didn't export the full size version, so I linked to the largest I had (1800px).

I will be picking up the color 120 films from the lab today. I've got papers to write and such, so they won't be scanned until later - but they're in the chute. That basically leaves the B&W films, which I have yet to shoot.

The 35mm camera I had now belongs to someone else. I paid it forward since I really don't shoot 35mm film and gave it to someone who expressed an interest in film. I still have Portra 400NC, Velvia 100, and Delta 100 in 35mm though, so I may borrow an SLR from someone to shoot those rolls and post examples of how 35mm scans come out from those films.

Just one more roll to go. I may try some star trails with it, or some night cityscapes - even though it's B&W.

Velvia 100, Mounted 35mm Slides.

The more slides I scan with this scanner the less I like it. These are razor sharp on a light table, and the colors are vivid. The scanner really butchers them. I'm going to try to mess with the scanner settings (I scanned everything in this thread automatically as a baseline), otherwise I will resort to LR3.
