Recently I was able to get away for a quick weekend trip to the hill country to visit the Sisters.
The ride out was a combination of back roads recommended on this site. The route between Houston and San Marcos was nothing too exciting but much more interesting than interstate. West of San Marcos though, thing get very nice. I chose 12 to 32 to 473 with the last stretch into Kerville on 1341. One warning on 473 though, about a mile West of 281 the road goes under construction for a couple of miles with gravel and dirt all over the road. The problem here is that the construction begins in the middle of a turn! If you happened to enter this turn hot, you could be in for a nasty surprise.
I wasn’t exactly sure what I was expecting once I got there but WOW, what a nice area to ride. I particularly like 16, 337 and the strip of 55 just North of Camp Wood. The cattle guards on 336 were more disconcerting that I expected but not so much so that I would pass on this road if I were to go back.
Here’s the route out
After all the talk of BBQ in Lockhart, this seemed like a must stop.
Mmmmm…. Blacks
My Saturday route
337 is the sweetness!
2 of my kids thought I should take something along with me so that I wouldn’t forget them. Ha! They each decided to give me a stuffed toy. Here they are on the adventure!
Unfortunately, this trip didn’t end very well, but that’s a different story.
