Such a great color. I hear the new ones, like this one, have a bit more power under the curve than the older models.

That is true..I had an earlier model and there is a noticeable difference off idle to 1/3 throttle opening...lends itself well to just short shifting thru the gears in the 4k to 5k rpm range and she scoots pretty good...butter smooth gearbox to boot..
75 mpg ridden moderately and about 65 mpg @ interstate speeds...4.6 gallon tank..so good touring range..
Big fan also of these and other bikes with the 1 finger clutch assist.
The other noticeable difference.is a better rear shock but the bonus is the USD forks give it real integrity in the front along with the twin dics.

I absolutely love my 2016 model. I have no intentions of getting rid of it anytime soon. This is going to make someone a great bike.

Added a 16 tooth engine sprocket from the stock 15...what it should have come with.
Ewww… it should come with a +2 rear sprocket imo.

They struggle enough on hills with the stock gearing to go up a tooth in the front. Mine came to me with a 16t and 15t front and the 16t was so bad. I only left it on for about 100 miles. Couldn’t stand it.

For me stock gearing was fine but bumping that rear sprocket up really brought the bike to life.

^^^...Glad you got your gearing right...mine is right for my usage..you must be off roading yours.
Mine is a street bike with mild off road capabilities.
Kinda like Vstroms...
Much more relaxed @ hiway speeds..
Most riders are opting for the 16 tooth..you are the exception..
Do you have a '22 model ?
Noticeable quarter throttle improvement over my earlier model.

Mine is a 2016. The newer models do have a midrange bump in power as I understand.

I'm definitely the exception in the 500x community when it comes to gearing but I don't think I should be if my example is any indication. It's a 50hp bike that weighs about the same as a KLR but I'm pretty sure mine was slower than a KLR with the 16t on. I believe the 16t sprocket is, for many, a case of upgraditis and just following the crowd. It makes the bike demonstrably worse in all situations except for lower rpms when cruising but I don't believe this matters a whole lot.

I do ride off pavement a lot but with the bigger rear sprocket the pavement performance is much improved too. I found myself shifting all the time on the highway with the 16t gearing as the bike just doesn't have enough power to pull that gear up any sort of grade. It would actually lose speed at full throttle going up hills here in Texas unless I down shifted and getting to 70mph and keeping up with traffic could be difficult without just staying in 5th a lot. The stock 15t wasn't worlds better but it was better (it could still lose speed at full throttle on steeper gradients that were, say, 10% or more).

Additionally, with a 15t sprocket the "power band" is very small and it's hard to stay in it on tight twisty pavement. To me the 16t exacerbates this and makes it feel like a moped with no power anywhere. With the bigger rear sprocket I can be a little lazy in the corners and still scoot along at a decent clip without having to row through the gears as much.

In short, I have no regrets on running the shorter than stock gearing and firmly believe it makes the bike behave even more like a proper motorcycle.

Interested in any type of trades?

Beautiful bike and almost new, why the sale? The last time we chatted at the Burnett museum we discussed our KTM 390 Adventures; how does this bike compare?

My problem is I have too many of these bikes that compare and sorta do the same mission..
CB 500X...Vstrom 650...390 Adventure...NC 700X...they all kinda overlap into common territory...so just trying to figure which best suit me...all winners and can't say ones better than the other...just tailored to the ride and rider...kinda tough choices I love to have..

Off topic but of these bikes, being similar in purpose, which do you prefer?

And I'll add a bit more off topic, I used to own a 650 Vstrom, which I would consider a larger (heavier) bike than the CB 500X or KTM 390 Adventure. I too, crossed shopped the Honda 500, and occasionally wished that I had bought one as it would be smoother than my 390 but the 390 is less top heavy than the 500. Either way you're selling a nice looking bike so good luck with the sale.
