The Kisatchie Ranger District is pleased to announce the reopening of the Sandstone Multiple Use Trail in Natchitoches Parish on Wednesday, May 1. This scenic, challenging 36-mile-trail loops through pine upland forest and sandy hardwood bottoms, including sandstone bluffs and picturesque vistas. Hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and off-road vehicle users are welcome to use this fun trail. A map of the trail may be found here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5398472.pdf

Not too far for Houston riders. Post a report.

Hmmm, big bike friendly?
No idea, that question also depends on the rider, lol! Lot of guys ride the SHNF on big bikes but I don't consider it big bike friendly. Lots of sand and whoops scare big on my big bike, lol!

It is a great trail system but a long drive from anywhere. It takes me right at 3 hours to the trail head from the Golden Triangle. The problem is LA 2-lane roads with 55 limit, speeding is at your risk. $207 for me one early early morning and the only other vehicle on a looong stretch was the cop. It is a fun trail but I would not ride a big bike, lots of fluffy sand. Perfect for real DBs.
