I jus finished up the luggage rack install on my latest Strom....(yes...another one)
2014 1000

I used the Givi SR3112 hardware kit for a 17up DL650. It doesnt come with a M5/M5M plate so is less $$ to buy. Givi doesnt list it as fitting the 14-19 DL1000... but..it fits fine.

I had a SW Motech steelrack & a Givi SRA3101 rear luggage plate from 12-16 DL650....a Tenere SRA2101...& a Varadero SW Motech
I ended up goin with the Varadero SW Motech plate since it looked right & fit with only 4 new holes drilled.. (I still need to countersink the holes)
Hardware consisted of 4 spacers from the Varadero kit... 2 8mm short bolts from the Givi SR3112 kit...+ 2 spacers & 2 shorter 8mm bolts from my stash.
I also added a helmet lock to the rear underneath

So here is the list of Givi top rack kits that interchange hardware between 1000s & 650s

SR3105 w/ (Monokey M5 plate)
SR3105M w/ (Monolock M5M)
SRA3105 w/ (alloy Monokey plate)
all listed for 14-16 DL1000 but will also fit 17up DL650

SRA3112 w/ (alloy Monokey plate)
17-20 DL650 & 17-19 DL1000
SR3112 (plate not incl)
Listed for 17up DL650 but fits 14-19 DL1000 too
Jus add plate of your choice

I've actually been doing a little work on the bike lately (no pics) :(

Put on an AdventureTech shelf to remove the goofy cig plug I have on the bike. Next step is to get it wired up "correctly". Short term is to use the factory heated grips connector IF I can find it.. I haven't had much luck yet.. I've done my web searches and I haven't found any definitive answer on this. I have a 2013? Wee..

Any comments on the Eastern Beaver harnesseses? I was thinking of of the 3CS w/1 Unswitched.. I am not a big farles guy
Is the brake light connector this taps into closer to the battery or closer to the tail light itself. Just wondering where I would stuff all the wires...

Rear brake switch connector is under back of tank near battery.
You can get dual usb plugs to replace a cig lighter style power outlet. My Tenere now has one up front with the cig lighter outlet moved under driver seat. DL1000 cig outlet was already swapped to dual usb by prev ownr. I needta mount a cig outlet below seat on it.

Ive owned 3 of the 1st gen 1000s...
3 1st gen 650s....& a 2nd gen 650....
Really no major issues with any of em in over 220K miles combined....although the 650s have been overall more user friendly as far as jus gettn on & ridin
So now its time for a 2nd gen 1000 & its major improvements

I hate to be a party pooper but the decade starts on 12:01 Jan 1, 2021!
Where do you start when you are counting?
1 of course, it sure isn't 0!

well! I started the year off doing the TPS replacement and then the fuel filter bypass! 54,001 miles. I should replace the chain again, starting to get rust dust on the master link. Oh to end the year I had a piece of magnet come off and take out the stator which took out the regulator. Things you may need to know to understand the TPS failure and the fuel filter clogging.
TPS well give you a high idle condition after extended runs or maybe even just normal traffic. Tendency to stall in the summer.
Fuel filter, when you turn the ignition you get a fuel injection error light but no code. Cycling the ignition well getting it to stop. You can hear the fuel system go through its self check, the self check doesn't complete. The pressure is low at the injectors and that feed back is the error.

Update on the TPS repair! After I installed it I couldn't get the bike to run, stumble and die off idle under acceleration. No amount of tweaking the position indicator would resolve it. sync the throttle bodies, did the fuel filter bypass. No change. Installed my reconditioned TPS and BAM it runs like a top. I cross reference the part number I got to what Bike Bandit and Babbits have on their sites and it is different from what I received.
I received 13580-02f00 and the sites have it as 13580-06G00. So if your have a devil of a time making your bike run right, it may be a wrong part.

Thinking about lowering my 2014 dl1000. Any suggestions? Mainly rear suspension. I like the stock seat. Who sells the adjustable rear linkage? Then I was thinking about an inch front and back.
I'm Getting shorter with age. :lol2:

I haven't seen an adjustable kit, though I wouldn't think it's that hard to design one. When I lowered my Wee in 2016, I bought a pair of dogbones designed to lower the rear by 3/4". Got them from a place called Murph's Kits. Total cost was $44. Definitely made the Wee easier to ride. DFW_Warrior cut about 1/4" out of the kickstand for me, which was just right.

Soupy's makes an adjustable one, comes with an adjustable kickstand as well. Not cheap.

Edit, you can buy it separate

At my age I'm not too concerned with bottom clearance I still have the XR650L for gravel. Thanks for the suggestions
