Let’s Ride Ranch

Back in the day when V-Stroms and KLR's ruled the world (2008) @Gilk51 organized the V-Strom Barbeque Ride to Hammonds Barbecue in Glen Rose. With some suggestions from a couple people I put together a 240ish mile loop to crash the party on my KLR.

From 2008:

I still ride the loop once in a while, and yesterday was one of those days. Over the years a lot more of the dirt roads have been paved and there has been a lot more development, especially on the route to get there, but its still a very fun day ride.

The wild flowers were still really nice in places.

Deep Down Road

The 5 water crossing road was pretty dry.

The horses were pretty unfazed by my Iron Horse.

Low and behold when I arrived at Hammond's there was a bike I knew. @OldTLSDoug was there for his weekly ROMEO lunch with his retired Comanche Peak buddies. They let me crash the party.

After lunch I headed out on my loop home.

Can you sing with me? We all live in a Yellow Submarine...

The route home has lot more gravel than the ride to Hammonds.

Try to imagine what this area looked like back in the day.

And back home.

Check out the gas price sign
It is cheaper than that right now just down the road from me, especially the diesel! The diesel was down to $2.99/gal recently. I can't remember the last time I saw it that low. It was actually cheaper than the regular gas!! :eek2: When was the last time you saw that?

I filled my storage tank for a buck fifty a gallon and a couple hundred gallons in drums a few years back just before the stupid hit full force . I didn’t buy fuel for a year .

and I go through buckholts all the time and have never seen that , guess I better start looking .

So gas hasn't been affected by inflation? Who knew... That was a 2008 gas price.

Little quick spin before online Church. 71 degrees the whole time, June in Texas. Nice. Couple of sprinkles but got lucky. Westside of Lake Conroe had more rain than east. Almost lost it on one slick spot. Didn't look bad but was! Went under this tree quickly.

I cannot tell what kind it is. Looks about the same size as the one that bit my neighbors dog last year. He wont do it again....but cost my neighbor $1800
Pretty sure not a Copperhead or Moccasian. Rattly snakes are skinnier than the Copper Mouths,
If I had to guess, I’d say it is a Texas Rat snake - a eater of small chickens, whether they be covered with down or shell.

Not sure what it was. I was going fast enough that there was no stopping. I did get out of the gas as I didn't want it wrapped around me or the bike. Pretty sure it was not poison version from looking at full sized image.

Well, it was a bittersweet ride on the KTM 530 EXC this evening. The bike is for sale and a serious buyer is coming to look at and likely take it home Friday evening. So this was my last rip on it. I decided to hit a few of my local fun roads just to make some power slide memories to keep with me once it is gone. It was HOT and HUMID, but still a pretty evening. I made it home juuuust before dark. Only had one close call with a car that tried to kill me and a deer that took off into the woods after darting across the road. I really shouldn't ride the bike right before trying to let it go... It makes me question my sanity!
