28 day solo ride TX, NM, AZ, UT and CO

Excellent report!

It most definitely brings back great memories of my own rides in some of those areas and makes me want to get back out there to continue exploring!
Scott, it would be hard to explore all the areas in Utah without moving there, but I'm going to try.

I just want to pop in and say that I’m ‘saving’ this RR for when I can view it on the iPad or laptop (rather than the phone).

So I’m behind but enjoying it mucho.

Thanks everyone. I really enjoyed this ride and writing the report. It's been a couple of years since I posted a ride report because I had not gone on a ride that lasted for more than 2 hours. I'm already planning my next adventure, probably a snowshoe backpack for a week to 10 days in January. Suggestions on where? I want beautiful as well as remote. The ability to reach the trailhead by motorcycle would be a big plus.

It took me about a week to go through this post. Thanks for the report. I love AZ, UT, NM and CO. Did a road trip that way a year and a half ago (driving). Got to see Chaco Culture and Canyon de Chelly, so much more to see though and hope to see some of the places you showed here.

Nor Dave, that area of the country has so much to offer. Just like Colorado, getting off the highways enhances the experience.

Good stuff, I finally had time to sit down and finish it. And some folks say a DRZ isn't and adventure touring bike! It is if you have enough travel days!

On the gearing, so you say ideal would be to bring a 14 and a 16 and forget the 15? Do they both do fine with the S stock guide? What are you running in the back?

gixxerjasen, I haven't had a problem with changing the front sprocket. I even went down to 13 once. I believe someone on the forum had a problem using smaller sprockets on the front. It wore through the rubber slider and into the swing arm. I have not had that problem. The 16 tooth is tight and I "machined off" a little of the rubber to get it to slide on. I've done the same 13, 14, 15 and 16t sprockets on the SM and the S, always running stock rear sprockets.

Good stuff. My E came with a metal guide for a 14 tooth (with the 14 stamped into it) and when I went to a 15, I ordered the S model guide with the 15 stamped on it. The 15 definitely wasn't going to fit with the 14 guide in place, so I had wondered about using a 16 in place of the 15. Thanks for the info.

What an amazing journey, thank you for sharing.

I was just in the Silverton area in early October in my side by side, California pass was one of my favorites. Man, it gets steep.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm planning an epic ride for next year.

I hate you! -- just kidding of course :-) Just found this thread and have spent the last 3 hours reading through it. The photography was fantastic, the narrative was descriptive and entertaining. And your ride was epic! Thanks for sharing your journey.

Might want to change your name to Bronson and get an "all seeing eye" decal for your tank.

I've seen that one, and it's all a matter of comparison. I can usually get away for like 4-6 days at a time, so yours is epic.
