Austin Wrench/Tech Day 1/14

The Houston group (Rebecca “Squeaky”, Gavin “Skid”, Erik “Rainmaker” & Debbie “Snoopster”) head out for Georgetown Saturday morning to a very chilly 44 degrees. We follow Skid’s lead which takes us on a not so direct path. We appreciate it though as he’s chosen some good roads. :rider: We finally showing up & Texmedic is actually surprised that we showed up as early as we did.

There was a lot more socializing then maintanence by the time we arrive :scott:

Well ….. I guess some people were still working:

Squeaky putting last minutes touches on TexasTri’s helmet:

Squeaky taking pics of the helmet for her portfolio

She did a really great job with the helmet. Here are the pics of the helmet that I took

A very happy customer:

Russ taking off wearing his new helmet. The old one is strapped to his seat.

I'm sure everyone appreciates you Kurt for hosting this maintenance day. It was good to meet some new people & talk with friends.

You are very good and very talented. Did you airbrush the entire surface?

Yup. Came new from the factory as a plain white helmet.

I want to get a chance to talk with you about some of your work at a pie run or gathering sometime.

Very nice work on the helmet, Rebecca...

Just curious about how long that took & did you have to do anything special?

It took longer than it should have because I was out riding all the time instead of at home painting...

I do my work with automotive paints, usually House of Kolor (PPG for some of the detail colors since HOK only comes in large quantities) and I use a 2-part UV clear coat just like the manufacturers.

The amount of work involved really depends on the design, but when the part is new like Russ' helmet (was shipped to me straight from the factory), there's much less prep work. Even if filling scratches isn't needed, I still do a full primer coat to ensure proper adhesion.

I'll have to work on getting a website setup to show my work, since I'm starting to actually acquire a portfolio. :sun:

Wow! So what is the going price to do custom painting?
And when can we start sending you our orders?

Russ, is that a Triumph Legend in the Green color? If so, please contact me. I have parts for you, free for the taking. But you have to come get them ;-)

Scott, I have been meaning to talk to you about that. It is a green Legend. You had mentioned a while back about having some parts. I'll gladly come get them, but I need to know if these are something I can carry on a bike or is it more than that?
What is your schedule like for this? Obviously I would want to make this as easy on you as possible.

:tab Russ, you'll probably want to be in a cage unless you have the ability to carry a big box ;-) I have the front fender, one of the side covers, and some other bits and pieces. I can try to get it all out of the attic and take some pics for you this evening. There really is no good or bad time for me as long as I know you are coming ahead of time. My schedule can be a bit random so planning around it is near impossible

I can’t believe I forgot to post this incriminating evidence. :lol2: Squeaky couldn’t resist hopping on Kurt’s bike & WHAT ….. no helmet.:shame:

Ooooohhhh that’s right, she was riding down the driveway to her bike to pick up her :phead: & check out a sand pit nearby.

If we would have had more time, she would have anxiously taken a spin on other poor unsuspectingly bike around.:deal:

It wasn't a sand pit, it was a paintball course :nana:. Don't mind the "no trespassing" sign (ok, so it was a banner about the size of a car...)

The DR was FUN FUN FUN! Wish I had more time to try it out, but I was being rushed! I would have gladly given a few more bikes a test run!

As much as I would like to come tomorrow I am 'on call' so can't get to far away from the house and my PC, and we are planning on doing the green builder fair.
We recently bought some land in Bastrop and are trying to get everything in place for the retirement home.

Scott, I'll pm you in the next several days to see what next weekend looks like for you.

VERY nice job on the lid Squeaky. I'll have to file that in the back of my mind for when I want a new one!
