Post your Day Rides Here!

A couple of weeks ago I accepted friend Jim's invitation to ride in a small-bike road run hosted by the vintage motorcycle club in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Jim rode his YSR50:

But he let me ride The Little Red Rig, his homebuilt sidecar mated to a CRF100:rider::

The summer trip continues. I've spent way to much time visiting and not enough time riding. But today we got out for a quick ride in Glacier NP. Due to a large fire on the eastern side we could only ride up Going to the Sun Rd from the west and had to turn around before Logan Pass. Beautiful day for ride.

Very cool that this thread is still alive and still knocking back awesome photos. I've had a raft of Texas visitors this summer, strangely, so it's got me thinking about y'all down south ;).

It's been a busy, stressful year, and today was no different. I was about 30 seconds from sitting down and drooling in front of the TV tonight, and probably about 30 minutes from sunset.

Instead I did some of this.

Ahhhh.... I feel better now. Rusty et al, next time you come up, bring something with knobbies. Preferably less than 600 lbs as well.

Are you guys doing a North loop?

Rusty wouldn't let me ride with the rest of the group. I think he thinks I'm with that Waco Twin Peaks motorcycle gang. ?

Re: Summer trips with a few rides

After retiring from the FD with 30 years of service my wife and I have been on the road or the last couple of weeks. Of course the bike came with us. I'll post a few picks of the rides we've been taking. This is our setup as we were leaving home.

The first time we were able to go on the bike was while staying in Prescott AZ. We took a day and rode up to The Grand Canyon. A few pics.......

Trust me, my jacket is lime green. It's just so bright it overwhelms the cameras meters and shows up yellow.

Next stop was Tehachapi CA to visit my nephew. Not moto related but he works at a company fixin to roll out a new civilian airplane. Production model #1 will be delivered at the Osh Kosh fly in. Icon is the company; this is the product....

We are currently parked in Groveland CA outside Yosemite. Our rig is too big to get into most national park campgrounds so we have to go private. The benefit is full hook ups with WiFi that is allowing me to make this post. My sister and her family are staying at a site in the Yosemite Valley so we have been commuting in to visit with them and see sights. About an hour and half ride each way with good traffic. The roads are awesome fun and the sights amazing.

More to follow later as we tour the northwest US.

Awesome just awesome. Gives a man idea on where he needs to go.:deal:

Looks awesome! I have friends that have been involved with the Icon aircraft....

Today we are near Red Lodge, Montana. Sturgis officially starts tomorrow so the loud pipes are keeping everyone safe here on their way to the gathering. We had to park up near the road last night. They were up with the sun rumbling by at 0530. We got to move into a spot down by the river and can't here them now. After moving I had the afternoon to myself while Sandy took care of some business so I took a ride up Bear Tooth Pass.

Saw the Bear tooth.

And into Wyoming before heading back.

On the way back to Red Lodge I spied a dirt road heading up the valley and decided to take the Tenere off the pavement for a bit. I took Rocky Creek Rd for about 5 miles up the valley. My first real primitive road on the Tenere. The bike and I did fine.

A nice day. Taking the cage into Yellowstone tomorrow. Sandy can't do all day on the bike. I've ridden around the park several times before.

Got another chance ro ride today. I rode into the national forest on North Fork Rd then to the Red Lodge ski mountain. Here's a view of Red Lodge from up on the mountain.

I stopped in town to top of the fuel and happened upon one of the coolest things I've seen in a while. A bagger Harley with a front that acts like a Piaggio scooter. The guy riding was the designer and CEO of Tilting Motor Works. This was one of the first production models that he was riding to Sturgis to meet up with his sales team.

His other bike is a BMW GS1200. He did a video coming over Bear Tooth Pass that will be on his website tiltingmotorworks.com. It'll be interesting to see. If I ever had to go three wheels this would be much better than a trike IMHO.

Tonight was such a beautiful night with that big old moon out, about 7:30 I decided Murphys Steakhouse sounded like a good run for dinner. Got there about 9:05 and closed the place down. A fine meal indeed.

A very nice morning hear at Grand Lake CO. Low temp last night of 39'. We took a ride over Trail Ridge Rd to Estes Park for lunch. Beautiful as always but the road construction had us sitting in line at one point for 40 minutes. Oh well, that's the price of admission this time of year. We'll worth it. We continue south tomorrow for a few days near Salida.

Grand Lake is nice, was just there two weeks ago. Rode single track in Arapaho National Forest, endless trails. Got there back and forth on the Tenere from Denver thru Rocky Mtn NP same as you. Wildlife was in abundance and breathtaking road. I was also impressed by Estes Park, that is one cool little hip town.

It would be so easy to spend a summer riding Colorado. How was the Tenere on single track trails?

Well not very pretty but I didn't drop it. Actually had no plans to ride any trails on it but was assured of a short loop that was noob and big bike friendly. Well the noob dumped her DR80 hard on the forestry road even before getting to the trailhead. So I ended riding her 2 up and still had my 11" wide Jesse bags on loaded with all my camping gear. Well the trail turned out to be much rougher than my friend remembered from 5 years ago..duh Anyway I made it without carnage and then parked the beast. Was then able to borrow a IT200 that I rode for the remainder. I think Viethorse might have some video of me riding the Tenere on the trails. Can't wait to see that.
