Day 6
Timber Creek Campground to Great Basin National Park
After our group of riders got seperated into two groups, with the first trying to catch up with the second group that was behind them..... Yea, i said that right.
One point i want to make is the second group went to take pics.
At this time when ready to move out again i did see Metalcarver make U turn and head back the other way. I continue on for about 100 feet down the hill and the road just petered out into a double track instead of county gravel.
I looked at the tracks and it sure did appear that big bikes had continued on.
So off I went. That double soon turned into a single track and then just totally disappeared. Here i was stuck with mountain one side and a big ravine on the other side.
Managed to get the bike turned around and headed back out. Right side skid plate collided with a good size rock putting one big folded back area on it. Did manage to keep bike upright and continue on out.
Went back to top of the hill to think of where they could have gone.
Decided to just wait, someone would miss me and come back.
Sure enough Metalcarver soon appears and we take off in the right direction.
here is the wrong way to go.....

Finally arriving at Baker and able to get something to eat before heading into the Great Basin National Park to camp.
This on is for you KP, what's for dinner....
Some type of bean/beef burito stuffed with all types of stuff, including Spanish rice.
Good it was too.
Since i am missing pictures due to lost PnS, i am going to just end it with a few comments of the return home.
Went through Joshua National Forest

Thusday June 11, 2015
Had made it to Van Horn where i spent the night.
Received a text msg asking me to swing down to Valentine, Tx, and go to the post office there and get some envelopes post marked from there, which i did.
Chatted with postal clerk there and she said to come back in Feb when they have a special stamp to cancel the post mark, guess that makes it more valuable in some way.
Valentine is a town that barely exists.
She said used to have a population of around 2,000, but with train round table shutting down there no work left there except for the ranches.
Leaving there i headed to Fort Davis and then onto Davis Mountains State Park to get a pic of the bike in front of the state park sign. Which i did.
After leaving the State Park, i came across Balmorhea State Park and was going to take a pic of bike in front of that sign. It was just too crowded with cars trying to get in and the line was not moving, so i moved on.
Finally arriving at Pecos, i had to wait about two hours there for the leading sand storm, followed by a rain storm with heavy winds, along with a tornado warning to clear before pushing onto I20 East.
I did finally make it home, but the next morning (Sat) at 5:30am.
From Van Horn -> Valentine -> Fort Davis -> Pecos -> Home...
Left Van Horn - Fri 9:30am, arrived Tyler - Sat 5:30am ~716 miles.
One tired puppy when i finally switched the engine off after pulling into the yard.
Wish i had not of lost the camera, lot of pics on it that would have added to the final days of the ride. At least now i can consider this one closed and start planning for my next trip.
My thoughts on trying to do a live ride report is that it is a pain, but if i can ever get down to really being able to do it, without losing my camera, I will keep it up and try to improve.
