That's not bad. My X-Grip keeps turning off my iPhone XS since one of the rubber holders is perfectly placed to do so. This one looks like it wouldn't do that.

That was another of the reasons I was looking to replace the X-Grip. As long as you have a space without buttons to grip on, this addresses that as well.

Looks like you can use the rubber band the X-Grip came with on this one. I'm ordering on Amazon and will compare the two to see how it works. Thanks for the heads-up.

It includes one of the rubber bands like those sold on Amazon (now I have a 4-pack +1). Most reviewers indicated how they quit using it after becoming more confident in the mount's ability to hold onto the phone. I'll keep one in the tank bag, just in case.

Yeah, I always use mine with the X-Grip because the confidence level in that pretty weak spring just isn't all the way there. Will be interested to see how this new one's "industrial" spring compares.

I have a couple of similar mounts. The ones I got are cheap and Chinese, but are threaded as opposed to spring loaded. Ain't NO way my phone is getting out of this thing accidentally. But - I like where the RAM ball mounts on the one you show better than mine. The bottom-mount is awkward to position the phone in portrait layout (vertical). I just don't trust springs anymore...

Yeah, with the leash, and after viewing the videos for that phone, I'm confident enough to proceed to test the mount on some washboard gravel roads and see how it does without the rubber band backup device.

I've used Slip Grip mounts for a while now. They are custom sized to fit most popular phones and case combos. The RAM-HOL pattern blots right to my SW Motech GPS mount.

The "Juiced Squeeze" from Hondo Garage looks awesome, but I just can justify spending close to $200 on it. I do like the idea of inductive charging, one less connection to make and possible fail over time.

Gave the Tackform a rattle test this afternoon. Hit some gravel roads with washboards, pot holes, and other rattle inducing surfaces. The phone didn't budge a millimeter. Impressive.

Then, I tested the leash by removing the phone from the mount and trying to walk off with the phone in hand without taking the leash off the RAM arm behind the mount. Yanked it right out of my hand and dangled it for my retrieval. Um, yeah, I meant to do that, ... that's the ticket.

Got mine yesterday - solid piece of work and I'm looking forward to installing and testing myself. I don't do gravel roads but we have enough poor-quality asphalt here in the ATX that it should get plenty of opportunity to to pass the rattle test.

And I am going back to using my old iPhone 6 without a SIM as my nav device. My iPhone XS will stay in the waterproof jacket pocket and will be a hotspot if needed. I have the old iPhone 6 loaded with offline google maps and do route planning on Scenic here at home with the WiFi. On the road, if I change it up, I’ll connect to the hotspot from my phone. The stories of damaged charger ports and flying phones after high sides have got me thinking I’d rather keep my good phone on my person.

Well I had to send back the Tackform piece I bought and replace with their entire setup. Turns out my RAM Tough Claw + X-Grip is the “all in one” version sold by Cycle Gear and it doesn’t have the modular arm or ball socket that will fit the cradle with the ball attached. No big deal - return the solo cradle, get the mount with cradle attached. The Tackform mount looks pretty solid as a bonus - probably a lot more solid than my composite RAM Tough Claw. It also won’t be portable, but that’s better I think, for theft prevention (of the mount, not the phone. If I’m dumb enough to leave the phone in the mount I deserve to lose it).

I’ll hold on to the RAM for my bicycle or something, or maybe sell on CL.
