This morning, JT and I "slipped the surly bonds" of home and work.

New twist for us. We're going to camp out of the truck and do day rides and hikes. The boys, Makenzie and 3-oh are excited. Makenzie says he hasn't been anywhere in forever.

Also, I'm trying my hand at reporting as we go. (Maybe I'll actually finish this way 🤷🏼‍♀️.)

As I type, we are closing in on our first night at sleeping in the bed of John's truck. We have reservations at Bottomless Lakes State Park, near Roswell.

Not so fun facts: did you know that if you need to change your reservation at a NM state park that, A) you can't use the website that you used to make the reservation

B) you must call a 800 number

C) You are required to cancel your reservation, and pay a cancellation fee and lose half of your camp fees

D) Make an entirely new reservation

I’ll be checking in here awaiting the updates.

From Sierra Vista just north of Ruidoso, take 117 up to Skyline Campground. I was the only one there a few years ago and if I remember, it's at about 9,000 feet. So peaceful. I stayed in a tent.

I want to go back to NM someday.

I have to check that one out. Cimarron canyon state park was excellent also.

9000'!? You cray man! That'd be too cold for this chica!
It was a bit chilly but had a good sleeping bag. In Flagstaff it got down to 32 at night but I was fine with that bag. Slumberjack was the brand. I like tent camping, haven't done it since 2018. Maybe Arkansas next year at Queen Wilhelmina.

I knew about C. I decided to not camp in NMon my way home from Montana as I was taking a faster more direct route, so I grabbed a hotel. To cancel my reservation would have eaten almost all of what I paid so I just let it go. Wasn't worth the trouble. Glad I wasn't trying to change it.

Good morning. When I woke, this is what I saw. Like two pups at the door. Except they didn't want to come in, they wanted us to come out and go exploring!

Sleeping in the bed of a pickup turned out purty comfy.

Thanks for suggestions of where to go and what to eat. We are headed to the Badlands of NM, up around Farmington. At our pace, that'll be an all day drive. But if there's something we should include on our way, let me know!

Speaking of our pace, yesterday I documented a real rarity:

The Mighty Mazda PASSED another vehicle! Woot!

Sounds like an interesting trip! Y’all going to hit any mountains on your route over?

I hope that you guys have a great time! New Mexico has some great riding opportunities. Please let us know how the riding and truck camping worked out. You should have good weather for this adventure. :rider:

(JT, keep those double straps tightened down on the totes. LOL)
