Don't know about you, but I'm thinking those cacti are proudly sayin' Hookem!!!

The plan for this trip is working out great. By riding the bikes to our daily destination, we get a multiple whammies of adventure. Just riding these highways and unpaved roads is fun enough. Now add the incredible scenery along the way. Then we arrive at the trail head that will take us to our target (just getting there was an adventure). Now we get a good hike and then we are rewarded with things like incredible rock formations or ancient art.

Our target this day is Crow Canyon. Petroglyphs on canyon walls. Alright, let’s go!

After a little more adventure than we planned on...

How did that sand get packed in there? Gee, did Makenzie take a sudden nap? Maybe. Maybe twice. 🙄

Crow Canyon...well, there's another place I'll have to check out. It's funny as many times as I've been to Angel Peak BLM, I didn't know these two places you've brought up here were within rock throwing distance.

My wife and I have driven 550 many times and several of those trips included making fun of a sign pointing NW to scenic views. We'll make the turn next time. How did you decide to go there? Enjoying this report. I hope it lasts a Loooonngg time.
That's what I've been wondering as far as these locations being a little off the radar. Like you I've gone by this area who knows how many times and even stayed at Angel Peak and ridden down in the canyon bottoms. Granted, all of the times my main destination was CO, UT, or elsewhere when I stopped there. I think most all of this is indian land except for Angel Peak BLM, right?...maybe that's the reason for so little info out there. Love it when new spots are identified like this.

To get to Crow Canyon, we first travel through the gorgeous Largo Canyon. Pictures don't convey the beauty. Why isn't this place famous? But kinda glad it isn't.

It was hard not to stop more often for pictures but I knew the results would be disappointing.

It was on this road we saw the bullsnake.

Getting to Crow Canyon involved crossing a big wash. We tried 2 roads that ended at the wash , but no way to cross. The 3rd road had a manageable drop off to the river bed. We decided it would be easier to ride the wash up stream to another crossing.

Riding in the wash. Soft, packed sand.

Cowboy cafe in Roswell is LEGIT. I met the owner in cloudcroft when he was on way to pick up a trailer. He bought my meal and my beer.
We enjoyed our meal, the atmosphere and the waitstaff, who had a certain, sassy ‘tude that was fun.

Some sections you could walk right up to. You could touch them if you wanted. But in other areas the ground has eroded away, effectively giving protection to the carvings.

Short story. No pix.

I’m in the ladies washroom at one of the rv parks we stayed at. A woman comes in. “Darn” she says, “I forgot my toothpaste.”

“No problem,” says I, “use mine.” I dig out the tube from my bag, leave it on the counter and turn back to the shower stall. As I do this she tells me she has been hard of hearing since having Covid a month ago. Upon hearing this, I turn back just in time to see her squeeze my toothpaste directly onto her toothbrush.

I suppose I shouldn’t offer personal hygiene products to strangers in any case. Nor do I know how I expected her to use the toothpaste. But in that instant, that tube no longer belonged to me. Lol

When I got out of the shower, she had left the toothpaste on the counter. I tossed it in the trash.

JT and Gina
Thanks for sharing your trip; esp almost real time!!
This is exactly the kind of thing I want to do with my mini toy hauler. Trailer out and camp, ride to scenic areas, hike, photograph, etc., ride back to camp - find another area to camp and explore and so on.
The pre trip research is critical to success it seems.

I want to get a riding suit that is easier to wear hiking clothes under and just zip out of it and back in for the ride back to camp. Seems like that would be easier than pants and jacket but perhaps not.

Wishing you both continued fun adventures. 👍🏼

Except for the 1st night at a NM state park and 1 night at Angel Peak CG, we've been staying at RV parks. They've all worked out good enough, providing power for John's c-pap and hot showers are sure nice.

This one looked absolutely uninspiring when we pulled in. Just a wide gravel lot with no shade, no tables. But turned out they had a nice patio set up for guest use. The patio offered a heck of a view of a valley and Angel Peak.

We cooked dinner using their gas grill both nights we stayed here. Enjoying the view and the owners FOUR beagles(!)
