Nueces Canyon+ Adventure ride II, November 13th & 14th

Man that sure was a KICK-@!$#%*RIDE ! :thumb: Im ready for the next one ! Anyone have anymore pic's :photo: anyone?............bueller?............bueller?...........anyone? :rider:

So were cruz'in down this ranch road , I dont remember which one it was but were going much faster than we should be as usual , were having waaay to much fun & can see a ranch house up ahead . As we get closer to the house we s-l-o-w-d-o-w-n the pace abit so we don't scare the animals or the humans , then we come up to a ROADBLOCK the rancher dropped all these nutri-grain bar's for cattle right down the middle of the road , I mean there was a red sea of santa gertrudis for about 1/8 of a mile , can be a bit scary on a motorcycle so it's wait, turnaround or go through them as they were totally blocking the road so sander decides to go through them , WOW! he's manuvering through them so i followed , the cattle want to stay in the middle of the road because that's where the food is so i veer to the far left started blowing my horn & the livestock proceeded to move out of the way, Unbelieveable! Im sure glad those cattle were tame because Ive seen what wild one's can do.That was one of the most exciting part's of this AWESOME RIDE! You should have been there. :rider:

I am Thankful for earning my spurs with the Nueces Canyon Gang, even including The Mossback! Happy :eat: Thanksgiving, V>>>

Thanks for your post... I'm the newest TWT member that went on this very cool ride. There were more than several hot riders that always looked-out for us slow guys.

I see you're from Santa Fe, my wife and I have vacationed in northern NM and southern CO a few times. Each time I'm there it seems like there are thousands of dual sport bikes and an endless number of open-range legal riding trails. Am I right ? TX is real restricted by locked gates and no-riding ordinances.

I've always wanted to ride up in your vicinity. Thanks, Vance

The riding here is epic, thats all I can say! There are hundreds of miles of single track, and thousands of miles of Forest roads! If you make it out with your bike I would be willing to show you around!

Someday Moss-Man we gotta go up there! :rider: V>>>

Looks like an excellent route you took! Leakey is an awesome area, and you found a lot of dirt to ride. The deer seemed very unconcerned! Glad you could get a pic of it standing, rather than on its side, which is usually the case in Leakey. Thanks for posting up and taking us along!

First, Sander  gets all-the-credit for this ride's fun, challenges and ride report. It's a great route! Second, that's my red XRL on it's side... made it thru the deep hole in the creek, but not up the far embankment. Thankfully Brother James from Waco gave me a clutch lever. Come ride sometime, Mossrider has an XRL as well :rider: Vance :flip::flip::flip:

Ok, so three of us were up there right before Christmas. Rode Hackberry, Bullhead and Kent Creek, as well as some others. We tried one other though, and this one bothers me. Rim Rock Rd takes off of 337 between Camp Wood and Leakey going north, connects to Cougar Rd and it says in eventually ties into Dry Creek going into Barksdale. I made it part way down, but the connector at Cougar Rd is VERY rough, much more rugged than say Kent Creek. Discretion being the better part of valor we elected to turn around, but I think there is a way to get through. Has anyone done this?

My Garmine map on MapSource shows an un-named road connecting Cougar and Dry Creek. This usually means it is a private road.

But you probably already knew this.

Hope it goes thru though, that would be a nice addition to that area.

I don't know anything about Cougar or Dry Creek but I want to. I'll definitely check it out next time I'm over there and report back.

I still want to find the way through on Cypress Creek road, I'm going to try from the US83 side next time.

Time to plan Nueces Canyon+ Adventure ride III, New Bill back on a Bike, pre-around the Bend shake down...

We rode up too a lot of private locked gates on roads in the area. But this one was different, it was definitely NOT a frequently traveled road, but no gates as far as I could see. I think if might be public because of the house for sale in the very near vicinity. Here is a cut and past with my commentary.

The last time I rode Dry Creek I made it to the house for sale (wasn't for sale then). There were some hunters sighting in their rifles there who told me the road beyond was private. We turned around at that point. I never called the County Commissioner to find out if what they told me was accurate or not.

It would be good to know. It would be a very difficult couple miles though, it looks like it is there for access to a hunting lease. Guaranteed, nothing but a high suspension, four wheel drive vehicle would make it (other than a lighter bike :-) of course) and you would not want to worry about scratching it up a little.
