The 2007 Suzuki Bandit 1250S -The Mega Thread

Boat:doh:been there done that. At least bikes are bit more convenient, jump on and go for a ride. You know what they say Andy, "The two happiest days of boat ownership are the day you buy it, and the day you sell it. The days in between; well……could be anything.”

My Dad has a sailboat and I got lip many times for having the bike. Sure I can't cross the Atlantic on it but I'm spending TONS less money (even in storage alone!) and actually enjoying it! :D

Hello fellow bandit riders. I have a 2007 B1250 that I have loaned out to my father in law for the past few years. I'm selling my 09 Vstrom 650 this weekend and getting the Bandit back. First thing I'm doing is buying some side cases.

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a set of RED Givi PLX V35 cases like this:

bandit17.jpg

I can only find silver/black/matte black options. I guess gloss black would work fine and possible work for future bikes, but the matching red sure looks nice.

I currently have these racks, which I had previously used for Pelican 1550's, but I think this go round i'll go for the more streamlined Givi option.

Wow! Looks like a modern and CLEAN version of my bike.

About the Boat.
Boat2.jpg

It one of those kinda wanna sell but that serious about it. I do have fun roaming the bayous with my dog and the closest landing and Bayou is only about 3 miles from me. . Is some one would give me my ( a bit high ) asking price, I'd let it go. LOL! only thing is , when I use the boat, gotta hook it up, gas it up with oil mix also, off load and load back up at the launch. On the bike, Just go get on it, do a quick pre ride check, get gas and go.

Ah, okay. I think I'm just gonna go with black, if I can find them in stock anywhere.

Hi, the bike you have shown is mine. The red inserts are Suzuki part number 990D0-V35SC-YHL, and a Google search shows them in a variety of places. Suzuki have officially discontinued them, but you should be able to get them.

Try: http://www.cyclenationhuntsville.co...i&partnumber=990D0-V35SC-YHL&bigSubmit=Search

Or: http://www.speedsupplies.com/parts/suzuki-990D0-V35SC-YHL.htm

Or: http://www.powersportsnetwork.com/e...&product=693264&cattype=&ProductCategoryCode=

The alternative is to get existing ones painted. Colorrite do the Candy Sonoma Red (code YHL). The inserts replace the existing ones on any Givi or Kappa V35.

I hope this helps. I have a list of the part numbers for everything on my bike on my blog at:

I thought that looked like your bike, kewwig. One of the nicest B1250S's around, I think.

c24c, here's a set of the Suzuki branded V35's on ebay. The picture shows black, but if you read the copy they are actually with red inserts.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/07-09-SUZUK...155&pid=100015&prg=1006&rk=1&sd=160853269463&

They have been for sale for at least a year. I really considered getting them, but opted for a Givi E21 setup instead, as I figured I wouldn't use the wider V35's enough in Los Angeles. I did at one time contact the seller, and they were willing to do a discount. It would be worth a call to check them out. The use the same PLX mounting kit as the Givi's, although you might want to go with the Suzuki kit for the better turn signal mounting. (Read Kewwig's blog for details.)

PS: I also came from a 650 V-strom to the Bandit. Many have gone the other way, but for my riding I like the Bandit better. I sold my V-Strom to a guy going to Alaska, and as I said to him, if I were going to Alaska, I would take the V-Strom as well. But for LA commuting, the Bandit works better for me. Enjoy getting re-acquainted with your Bandit!

Nice setup. I too went from a DL650 and had the E21s on it. Useful bags.

Regarding the bag mounts, what I like about genuine Suzuki is that they work with both the Givi and OEM top box setup, but have the turn signals mounted properly. The Givi PLX racks have a silly system bolted under the rear tag light and it moves around and is less visible. The only complaint with OEM is that the paint is thin, but nothing that's not easily fixed. If you get this setup, you get small plastic plugs for the allen bolt heads. I guarantee you will lose one within a week, and they are hard to source (I have a UK source), so a drop of superglue keeps them in place.

Be glad you only have 3 miles to go. When I moved from Lafayette to Houston back in the mid 80's, I eventually sold my two boats (an aluminum flat bottom & a deep hulled 17' bay/gulf rig). Having a boat in Houston was just too much of a pain (storage, crowded launch ramps, long drive to get to bays/lakes, etc.). In Lafayette I was 45 minutes or so from Intracoastal City where I never had to wait to launch to get into the bay. My fresh water fishing holes were on the west side of the Atchafalaya Basin. My launch point for that area was the levee somewhere east of St. Martinville. Again, quick & easy to get to and no traffic.

I do miss just roaming the bayous. Fishing was fun but even if I never caught a single fish all day, I just loved being out there. I explored all the little bayous of "my" part of the Basin and knew them like the back of my hand. My favorite time was in the spring when the colors and smells of the swamps would come alive.

Motorcycle content you ask?.... well, I did not own a Suzuki Bandit back them. :trust::rider:

Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to miss the Vstrom, but the guy is paying my asking price so I can't complain. They make more everyday if I ever want another. I am certainly looking forward to twice the horsepower on the Bandit. Very unnecesary, but fun nevertheless.

I shot the ebay seller a message. That's a great find. If my deal goes through tomorrow, I''ll probably buy them.

The E21s look pretty good as well, and would work with the rack I already have, but they just don't have enough capacity for me, and I love the way the V35's "tuck" in.

I've contemplating adding the lower fairings, but I don't want to give up my crash bars/highway pegs. Anyone know for sure if there's a conflict? Seems like there would be.

There are crash posts available for the OEM lowers (I use GSG Moto), but crash bars and the usual protectors won't fit without cutting

Excuse my interruption but pelican cases on Monokey mounts!? How what where!?!? ;)

Not Monokey. Used SW-Motech racks and this kit.

Worked great, held way too much crap, looked a little odd, left no room for passenger. Worked fine for my 10,017 mile trip.

Good gracious...I took way too much crap....and so up high....
Oh well, didn't knwo any better at the time. Bandit handled me and all my crap just fine.

The setup works great for when your bike just needs a nap, too. (Sneezed as I was rolling to a stop...oops)

The lcoking mechanism is designed to break if impacted, so it did. Had to bungee the case on till I could get my hands on a new lock from Twisted Throttle.

I have the rack and case mounts if anyone is interested. Used the cases as top boxes on other bikes afterward.

c2...Your bike looks fabtastic! How much damage did the rolling stop tip over cause ?

How did the bike run ?

Scuffed the pelican case and broke the locking mechanism on that part of the rack. Also, snapped my bar end mirror right off. The crashbar/highway pegs did their job, not a scratch on the engine. Paint was untouched.

Pride was tremendously injured.

Bike did wonderfully. New tires when I got to northern cali, not a single issue out of it. Still going strong with no issues whatsoever today.

Very nice pics and travels!! And yeah having your bike go over sucks majorly! Ironically enough when I had my bike go over in the garage she stopped on the Hard Bags (Givi) but nothing broke bag wise just the clutch lever slightly, blinker and engine guard now has some battle scars! ;)

The Wee Strom went to it's new owner outside of Inidanapolis on Saturday. I was sad to see it go but the stack of $100s sure was nice.

Got my Bandit back yesterday and rode it for the first time in over a year. The hand of God pushing you down the road as you twist the throttle on this Beast sure makes you smile. Very different riding position to get reaquainted with, but still comfortable. This go round I think I need higher bars than the Daytona's. May get the Holeshot kit. Won a Sargent seat for it yesterday on ebay for $200 - something I should have done LONG before now.

Rode into work today, brought back some memories. Glad to have the Bandito back in the stable!

Know what you mean. Was thinking of selling my Bandit last month to purchase another bike. I took off for what might of been my final ride on it. Came home and forgot about the new bike.
Then, my old faithful KLR had a malfunction in the shifter mechanism. A blade spring broke leaving you stuck on what ever gear you happen to be in at the time. Mine was 1st gear, on a gravel road about 5 miles from home. In my buddy's driveway. Lucky me. I was on this bike about 2000 miles ago in Missouri. Would of been sad then.
But, parts ordered for da KLR and really thinking about redoing my worn out suspension on the Bandit. Close to a corrected 70,000 on it now. Just gotta be worn out. ;-) That's a grand gone. Sigh! Still in the Thinking Stage though.

Yeah, I'm also thinking about suspension now. 28k miles on mine with stock components, but I'm a big boy and have had it loaded up for a lot of those miles. I was thinking of grabbing a Busa shock for now. Cogent Dynamics is only a few hours from me, so I will probably save up for the next little while to do it up right front and rear to match my weight. We'll see!

c2c4c,

Did you get the Suzuki bags? There was another inquiry on ADVrider with a link to the ebay ones. Guy said they were sold out from under him, so I wonder if you were able to get them. I so update us with some pics.

BTW, they used your Bandit luggage picture again, kewwig.

That was me on ADVrider. I'm EvanADV. Seller told me they'd do $460 shipped outside of eBay, then they randomly told me it was a take it or leave it listing (but the listing had ended), then when I reminded them of their $460 offer they said they were sold (but the auction ended without a buyer). Just weird.

Oh well. Considering other options now...

Have you tried 1" risers even cheap Vstrom 650 ones from ebay!? Thats what I got for my bike and even with the stock bars they helped TONS and minimal $$$s! I'm putting Daytonas on mine soon and will also be using the risers so we'll see how that goes should be a vast improvement! :rider:
