What Happened in Pee Paw's Scooter Shop Today?

When said clip popped out of bevel drive, did the valves stop? If so, lucky no valves were bent. I would assume it is a non-interference engine. Just trying to gain some knowledge. Thanks

I wouldn't mind a twirl on that W...

Happy new year, Doug.

Actually it is an interference engine, I was just lucky it popped at TDC, so both pistons cleared. So, you can understand I was stressed a bit, but I am sure she is in there now, until she isn't, so good Karma saved me this time.

Man, this whole working thing is going ok. A former co-worker likens my current position to "picking money up off of the floor". I am enjoying the easy pace of Corporate IT, I am not on the security list to access the drives and "box" to get the material I need because the dude is on vacation and the backup guy is in Corporate and apparently giving access to a contractor is not a priority. Note that they started setting up my access on 6/12/2023. I did clean my cube, purge the previous owner, get rid of unwanted book cases and disinfected the desk. Also they need to set up a Microsoft account and give me a product key for office so I can access my email. I can look at it, download attachments, delete and file e-mails, but I cannot send them because...Microsoft. So, this gives me time to wander around and visit and get the "lay of the land". Actually, I am surprised that it just sort of feels like the same old thing after a vacation. My boss is almost a year younger than my daughter, but is a good guy. I start teaching fellers on the simulator next Tuesday, should be fun. Life is good at PPSS. Looking forward to the work. Also hoping I get a warm day or two soon to ride a scooter. We can hope.

"... picking money up off the floor." I like that. I was the head IT guy before retiring to a 1099 position, so I have to work for mine, but still a good gig thus far.

Put changer in corner. Put board across rim mounts for seat. Add pancake or hotdog compressor under tire machine.

If person who occupies seat annoys you, use bead-breaker to vent frustration and then swing bar (in this case demount bar) to knock person out of your cube.

What we really want is co-workers pictures corresponding to who is Dilbert, Wally, Dogbert, Catbert. Pointy-haired Boss, Wally etc

So, yesterday I took the W650 on a good 20 or so mile ride and she still leaks out of the bevel drive covers. All the o-rings are new, all the seals are new, all are installed correctly. I am almost $2k in parts into the thing. So, I decided yesterday I am going to move her on. She runs like a new one, has a burble in the left cylinder at idle, but runs perfectly from off-idle to redline. Shifting is good, tires are new, flushed the brakes, new oil and filter, valve adjusted properly. All she needs is someone to want to disassemble her and find the leak. Unfortunately that isn't me. I am $5k into a $3k bike, so I will post her up for sale in a day or two. I have a couple of buddies to check with before I let her go to TWT'er. I will put her up for $3k, include all the new parts, spares and old stuff I have, a service manual, special tools won't be included, they cost me $450 and are, after all, tools. But, it will be a sweet deal for someone. I will post it up in a day or two. I am punting because I have 50-80 hours in working on this thing, she is close, but I have decided to move her for sanity sake. I am sure it is simply a rolled o-ring or something. I have 2-3 sets of all the gaskets, including a head gasket so there is ample parts to repair her, I just am tired. I fixed all the valve train issues with new parts, so at least that is ok. I have a spare head and bevel drive system for parts, so it will be a good deal for the next owner.

Again, Pee Paw has had a tough run with my Non-KTMs. Go figure.

Dang, I just put all my play money into a ZRX...

Sucks to hear, but being Kawasaki's version of an old Triumph or BSA I am not surprised it still has leaks.

Um, you've just had a tough run, because one of your recent punts was a KTM. ;)

Sad to hear about the W, know you were looking forward to riding it like an old man around town.
Well happy you brought it up gixxerjasen...
He (ppss) did seem to be enjoying the W IMO...
As stated it could be just a rolled o ring, or some other simple problem... Hate to see it get past along down thru the forum without having a second chance... Of course it's just my opinion, Icould be mistaken...
Carry On 😎

So honestly, I have spent several days, all day, working on her. I painstakingly cleaned, repaired, aligned, and replaced all the bad stuff. I bet I have a hundred hours of work on her and frankly, I just don't want to do it again. I have 100% confidence that I rolled an o-ring and it will be a simple fix. The problem is I lost my Mojo for the W. I love riding the bike, she is perfect as she is for what she does. I will be sad that she is gone, but I learned a lot about stuff and things. I should have walked away when I was looking at it and the owner said, "She has a pretty good oil leak, just needs an o-ring", but I am pretty hard headed and knew I can fix anything. I am pretty sure there is not any real damage since the parts are new, I just don't want to be the one to fix the thing. I will move on to something else to play with. Maybe I will buy an 800 that doesn't leak, or possibly the KZ clone. Or another KTM, since most of those still run at my house.

I enjoy the comments, some day I will get a used bike that is easy to work on and maintain. Not much time for the long jobs right now. I am enjoying working and I built a Ducati Panigale V4 yesterday in about 4 or 5 hours. Just staying in practice, plus it was for 10+ years old, and therefore fit my wheelhouse. Plus there is no oil in her. I did enjoy it.

Let the Lego farkles begin!
As somewhat of a voice from the Wasteland of the Southefn Border, again just my opinion for what it's worth...
I'll have to be that guy...
Looks as though OLD PPSS is headed down a slippery slope in the start of this new year (going back to work, concerned about oil, giving up on projects, Legos)...
Possible intervention, huge hug, or not...
Carry On Sailor 😎
