What Happened in Pee Paw's Scooter Shop Today?

So, since I am back working I haven't done much in the scooter shop. I did upgrade my Bluetooth music feed to my old 1982-ish Onkyo receiver from a $12.00 Music Stream powered by a random 12vdc Canon Wart. The new one is a $120.00 BlueMe bluetooth receiver and it is the business I tell you. Crystal clear, no skips or drop outs, works better than I could have hoped. Plus the install was easy and I got a nice cable to attach it as well.
All I need is something that will let me plug in my USB music stick with RCA output cables to plug into the "aux" port on my old stereo. Izzat it?

Go with 5.

The air distribution ductwork system is where you want to focus. Your main trunk needs to be adequate to change future air distribution requirements.

It's hard to stop a Trane...

Doug's device is more for streaming music from his phone with something like spotify. I don't see that it has a USB port for that. There might be products out there but they'd have to be like a little mini computer to read your digital music files off the USB and turn them into signals that the stereo can play. Slightly more complex than the device Doug has there.

I use my outdated computer to bluetooth the music over to the gizmo then to the stereo. The new one works skip/noise free the other one is in the trash.

So, a couple of things. First the 2004 SV650 has arrived, but it was raining and I took no pictures. I am ordering stuff, he forgot a part or two, so we shall see. I did get the service manual and keys, oil change stuff, so I will begin fiddling with her soon. So far I notice that it is very heavy. I don't remember that, but she is dang heavy pushing her around the shop. I was surprised by this. Also, after being pulled up on an open trailer in the rain from South Texas, she is filthy. I will get a pic or two in the next few days. Today we will do the paperwork and I will soon own a nice toy. 34.6k miles on her, so just getting right. Looking forward to riding this one around. The bones are good, she runs, just needs a battery. In basically pretty good condition, he rode her regularly until 2019 when he got a Beemer S1000 and it dropped off some then. But no damage really. She has a bent bar end and clip on from a drop on the trailer, but I found one for $24 shipped. The bar end was near $40 from Suzuki. I am buying a LiFe battery for her should be here within the week. Hopefully, I can get her on the road soon. Tires are new, brakes are great, so is the basic paint. The grab handle is scratched from the tipover, so I will deal with that someday. Overall, I am happy with the bike. Lots of loose stuff for me to tighten and lots of dirt to clean, I am pretty sure I will have fun with her.

Second, I am leaning towards the mini-split solution. I am think 4-5 tons of mini-split goodness will solve my issues. I am pretty sure I can find a contractor to hook me up for money. Should be fun, and I need to plan as if I am adding another 1500 sq ft. to PPSS. (Which may happen as well). We shall see. I am tending to agree with James on the insulation side of things. I may start figuring a way to put it on top of the insulation that is already there. Definitely behind the plywood. Should be a hoot to get all that done, not looking forward to it, but it will be the best way. Should have listened to Mitch and put in regular insulation, I think I would have been happier.

So a few pics of the SV are in order. She is pretty dirty from her trip up from South Texas in the rain, but we have some good bones here. She has 34.6k miles on the clock. Since I had her before, I had done a few mods. I will try to list them as we go.

Some minor damage exists or existed (I fixed a thing or two this morning, it was fun) and I will try to show those.

First up the right clip on is bent a bit in a previous trailer tipover, haven't got it straight, but I found one on ebay for $25 shipped. Not too bad, the brake lever is bent and I ordered a factory one, plus the right rearset was bent and I was able to straighten it pretty easily.

You can see the odd angle of the brake lever here

The rearset was bent pretty good, but I got it straight, will probably sell these as I have new Vortex rearsets ordered.

After the fix

I also spied a Penske rear shock on her, I had forgotten I put that on, along with Tokico 4 pots and braided lines...

The battery, she is deadski, I have a LiFe battery on the way. She runs good, the tank is clean, should be ready to ride in a week or so when I get the parts and fire her up. Looking forward to spinning the SV again after all these years. Tires are Conti's from 2018, so they should be ok, seem awful hard to me though, so they may get changed and be up for sale. Looks like she needs at least one fork seal, so I will do both and then see if I did anything to the forks. It does have pre-load adjusters so who knows?

I will be working on her tomorrow so I will try to get a whole bike pic to post up. So far, so good.

FYI: I installed a Mr Cool mini split about 1.5 years ago and it works great, much cheaper than hiring someone to put one in (other than the 200v disconnect which was done by a licensed electrician) You might want to check that option out.

The yellow makes me miss my CBR600RR. That was such a fun bike. I can't find a picture of mine but here's one that looks almost like it from the internet. If one of these popped up I'd have a hard time resisting it.

So a little SV650 Update. Good news, brakes are mostly ok, the fronts have lots of pad, the rears, not so much, so I ordered pads for both. I removed the offending chinesium tail light with integrated blinkers and I am installing OEM signals. I fixed the bent bar end using a vise, a hammer and my mad skillz. I cleaned the chain and sprockets and they are in great shape, I had done a 520 conversion on her and it looks like a chain I installed, but I am at a loss as to the brand. I will research further. The gas tank is pristine and the gas inside isn't too bad. All the brake fluid is recent and looks good, but I will flush it with my Motorex DOT 5.1. I also will flush out the coolant system and fill it with the Motorex stuff as well. I have all the stuff to change the oil and I am almost to the point of checking the valve clearances.

The general condition of things is very good.

A little more good news, I had installed the Penske rear shock which Traxxion Dynamics had revalved and rebodied/shafted for me. It was originally a ZX-9R shock, and I had it redone to fit the SV650. The Rebound/compression adjuster is one knob, it is ride height adjustable. Also, it seems I did install the Cartridge emulators from RaceTech, so I am sure I did the springs then as well. Looks like she will need fork seals and dust covers. Not sure about the fork bushings, we will see when we do the seals. I found this by reading a thread I made on SVRider back in 2011 or so. Funny how all that stuff is still there. I used to be on the BARF forum and they had a lot of SV content, but I haven't found them again, I guess I should look some more...

The bad or not so good, or as we say in nuclear power, the deltas. Battery is at 8.36 VDC and dropping so luckily the new one is on the way. I wasn't able to completely straighten the clip on while it is on the bike, so luckily I have another one on the way. The rearsets are an old design of the SVRacing made ones, so I am replacing them with a set of Vortex rearsets which are more durable. I then will have a set of SVRacing rearsets for sale. I am missing the side covers that go over the seat bolts, so I will run without them until he gets them from down south. Not a big deal, just affects the OCD. I broke the end off of the badly bent brake lever, so now it is a straight shorty and I also have a factory Suzuki one in the mail. I have signals coming, parts for them coming, various little things, I haven't checked the air filter yet. She should be roadworthy in a week or two depending on my free time and parts availability. Really looking forward to riding her again. I think I missed it a little.

So, as you can see I am hard at it, lots of stuff pulled off, I will take the front off later and check on whether I have a speedo healer in there or not. Also need to install the front signals. so I will pull all of the front bodywork off as well.

The sad, broken lever, but she is straight-ish now.

And Donna is sporting her Marquez hoodie I got her at MotoGP in like 2015 or 2016. I told her I need to get a Grisini one for her now.

All in, she is much better than motorcycles, but don't tell her. I had a great time playing this morning might go back for more in a bit. Loving life at PPSS, of course we are about to pop for a new septic system, possibly aerobic with a lift station, Should be a lot less than a Super Duke 1390R. So there is that. Plus Donna wouldn't help me pay for a new Super Duke, she would say, "Don't you already have two?" It's like when I buy a sweet titanium exhaust and she says, "Doesn't it already have an exhaust system" That is why I love her she keeps me grounded. Looking forward to succeeding with a project, even if it is yellow.

Doug can you tell me how I can insulate my garage roll-up like you dud? Is it a kit? Tours looks really nice just like the rest of your shop.

I went out for an hour or so and took some more off. More good, the Air filter look almost new, the chain as well, I had put a new RK XSO 525 chain on and it is brown, never seen a brown one, but apparently I installed it several years back. Go figure. The breather filter was crumbling I had to vacuum it out of the air box spot it occupied, so that is ordered. The windshield is damaged, but I have a double bubble tinted one coming. New well nuts as well. Several fasteners are on order and hopefully stuff will arrive soon. I will get into the valves probably this weekend if I feel froggy. Cleaning and straightening has been fun. Here are a few more pictures of the progress...

Dirty but disassembled, also I still had the tank prop from the bike somehow.

Air filter looks nice. So does the airbox now that I cleaned it.

Speaking of cleaned, that is better as well.

Tank sure cleaned up nicely

And Mr. Chain, clearly I installed it, looks like my work and I am an RK snob after all, don't remember buying a brown one, I do like it though and it is in great shape.

AND! I had a set of Sato Racing spools for a Suzuki to replace the old faded Delrin Pit Bull spools that were on her.

You are a lucky, lucky, LUCKY man!! Thanks for taking us on the ride.
