Bellow number 1. Lol

Four bike shootout only? How many offerings are there in this segment, 9-10 bikes?

What four bikes did they test? And who decided which four bikes were the top four to evaluate for the title? That decision could be even more subjective than picking the winner from the top four I think.

Looks like they tested the Triumph, KTM, BMW, and Honda.

I always laugh at these comparisons when they pick a winner.

I also find it humorous when they brand loyal crowd weighs in on these discussions.

Very simple rule here...buy the best bike for you based on what you are looking for in a bike. Done.

The bikes to compare were probably decided by what they had on loan for evaluation at the time.

"Oh! Look, we have these four bikes in the stable, let's do a shootout piece for the next issue!"

Yup. Different strokes (I like two) for different folks.

I was really holding out hope for the Africa Twin, and thought for certain it would find a place in the garage, but with the HP being down in comparison to others, I have to rethink it. While HP is not all important; HP to weight is very important to someone like me who is a daily commuter. I need the extra oomph to get around some of the semi-trucks.

but with the HP being down in comparison to others, I have to rethink it.

It had to be a 1000cc bike to complete with all the ADV bikes out there.

Be it 800, 990, 1150, 1190, 1200, or 1290.

Once it's on the street HP tweaks won't be far behind for those that feel
the need.

Remember, though, that horsepower isn't necessarily a 1-to-1 comparison. Some engine/drivetrains just work better than others, some are just faster than others. You don't know until you take it for a ride.

The HP matches that required to qualify for Euro first tier rider licensing.

There is rampant speculation that an ECU update might boost it considerably if it has been detuned to meet that licensing spec.

Likewise, keep in mind that the power to weight ratio is the same as the KTM 950 Adv., which I can confirm is no slouch. For commuting it is dandy as long as you are okay with being a potential hooligan. If the AT is the same, it shouldn't disappoint.

Another aspect of power is torque, which on this bike is being reported as strong in any gear at nearly any rpm, which equates to very usable power. Tractor-like.

A few reviewers mentioned how it seemed kinda boring, until they looked at the speedo and realized how fast they were going and how quick it got there.

I'm a big fan of the accessories Rumbux makes for adventure bikes. According to their website they are currently R&D'ing stuff for the Africa Twin. Good news!!!

I won't know for certain until I get to swing a leg over one. I loved the previous iterations of Africa Twin, and was prepared to make a down-payment. Now I will wait until I get to take one for a test ride.

There's a picture in upcoming rides of a twt'er sitting on one at the bike show! Soon on the road maybe.

I will be sitting on one in about 4.5 hours! Can't wait! I'll post up some pics.

:clap::rider:
Look forward to your thoughts.

Do you realize how many butts from around the country have sat on those 2 bikes!
Oh well, I will add to the impressions! GermX on hand! :lol2:

Very impressed with the bike! Ergonomics were very good. They had a demo nc700x on rollers so I was able to experience DCT. So sweet! I couldn't even feel it shift. Amazing!

Well, I don't know about other folks, but I wear pants when I sit on a strange bike seat. :wary:
