New Africa Twin debut?

I was almost able to flat foot it with the seat at the standard setting.

Standing up on the bike felt great.

The weight didn't seem any different than my klr when getting it off the kick stand.

The standard windscreen seemed a little lower than I expected...and the touring screen was taller. I will try the standard screen and go from there.

Lots of people were around the twin all day.

Reps said the bike should hit US dealers in April or May. They said they have had a huge amount of interest in the bike...consistent with what I saw at the show.

Thanks for the pics...

1. How tall are you?
2. What wattage and type of headlight (LED, HID or standard) do they have?
3. Tubeless tires, right?
4. Is the metal frame protector standard shown on the silver model or aftermarket?

My dealership called me today and let me know they have officially placed the order with Honda for my bike!

Just got a call from a dealer.

They will taking orders in two weeks and are NOT ordering ANY for the showroom floor.

This particular dealer does not expect the Africa Twin to move well at all.

I can imagine why that dealer thinks that. They are working off of bad information.

My bike was ordered this Monday (Feb 1st). There are many many others on another adv forum that also had their dealers contact them Monday and place orders. The last day to get the first round of orders in is tomorrow.

I could be way off but the sense I got was that most dealers weren't bothering with a demo bike because their first allotment was already consumed by those with deposits on bikes.

I was browsing the cycle magazines at Barnes & Noble today, Cycle World ( I think it was) had a review of the Africa ("first ride") that was pretty favorable and seemed reasonably objective. Never have bought a new bike, but am strongly thinking about getting one of these. If they were only shaft driven...

What is it with Honda? Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy,

Well, you're only as good as your dealers. I suspect they can kill a product by talking it to death. I've watched GM do that a few times; their salesmen only wanted to sell big, old fashioned cars, so they ran down newer products I was interested in, in order to steer me into a traditional Caprice or something. Instead, they steered me to a Nissan dealership.

honda of Russellville (mega dealer) has a introductory special going.
pre-order and get the regular CRF1000L for $11,695, DCT CRF1000LD for $12,195

Good point, Yamaha has come out with a new member of the SXS family, 900cc triple and hot looks. But with a speed/clutch motor. At least in this area not a winner. I don't think the offroad crowd around here wants to shift/clutch. Gets in the way of drinking! lol Notice they have drooped prices.
